Most flowering bulbs are planted in fall for spring color or can be forced to flower earlier. The bulbs themselves can be admired for their form, texture, color, tangled mass of roots, and possible emerging leaf shoots. In this workshop we will focus on rendering a bulb of your choice in colored pencil. Practice color matching and layering techniques to build, and burnish color. Learn how best to imply the papery skin of the bulb and systematically capture the tangle of roots. Please bring a bulb of your preference to class.
Good candidates for illustration are Hippeastrum bulbs (a.k.a amaryllis), paperwhites and other daffodils, hyacinths, and tulips.
Note: when storing bulbs in your refrigerator make sure no fresh fruit is stored inside. A cold basement is a good place for storage, however protect your bulbs from freezing and possible little four-footed creatures.
