WHERE JAZZ BECAME LEGEND: REMEMBERING SONNY’S PLACE
A special afternoon of live music, storytelling, and jazz history.

Step back into the golden era of Long Island jazz and celebrate the legendary Sonny’s Place, the intimate 68-seat club on Merrick Road in Seaford that became a home for some of the greatest names in jazz.
Owned and operated by Sonny Meyerowitz, Sonny’s Place was a musical landmark from the 1970s through the 1990s. The small room welcomed jazz giants like Count Basie, Billy Eckstine, and Sarah Vaughan, while also nurturing the vibrant community of local musicians who helped shape Long Island’s jazz scene.
Decades later, its legacy still resonates.

Jazz at the Barn, inspired by the spirit of Sonny’s Place, continues that tradition of honoring jazz and the artists who keep it thriving. In partnership with the Cinema Arts Centre, this special event brings the history of Sonny’s Place back to life with the very musicians who were part of it.

Enjoy an unforgettable afternoon featuring:
Exclusive video screening – Short interviews with Sonny’s Place regulars including Jerry Weldon, Ron Aprea and more.
Live panel of jazz storytellers – With celebrated musicians Dave Lalama, Ralph Lalama, and Giacomo Gates sharing personal memories and insights into Sonny’s Place and Long Island’s jazz legacy.
Live performance – A special jazz set by the Dominick Duval Trio, bringing the spirit of Sonny’s Place to life on stage.

Join us for a rare gathering of jazz history, music, and memories.
Whether you remember Sonny’s Place or are discovering its legacy for the first time, this event promises an inspiring and unforgettable celebration of Long Island jazz.
