Workshop Description / Making Lumen Prints
Andreas will begin by sharing some of his own lumen prints, along with examples created by his students. The remainder of the workshop will be hands-on, giving you the opportunity to create your own lumen prints. A few days before the workshop, you will receive additional information to help you prepare and complete one or more works during the session. The lumen process offers a poetic way to tell visual stories and capture the delicate beauty of botanical forms in light and shadow.
Lumen prints are made by placing objects on traditional black-and-white photographic paper and exposing them to UV-light for 45 minutes to 2 hours. No chemicals or water are used. In essence, this is the making of a traditional photogram, with one key distinction: while a photogram is created in the darkroom using an enlarger, a lumen print requires exposure to UV rays.
