The annual Chapin Awards recognize community members who exemplify the dedication to the arts and humanities as personified by Harry and Sandy Chapin. Harry a prolific musician, story teller, and humanitarian in his own right, was instrumental in the establishment of the Huntington Arts Council (HAC). Sandy was a previous Vice President of HAC’s Board and Founder of the JOURNEY Arts in Education Program that has brought cultural learning through the arts into classrooms across Long Island since 1985. As the steward of the Chapin Awards, Huntington Arts Council takes great pride in honoring the legacies of Harry and Sandy with a muti-media, live performance event, celebrating exceptional colleagues whose contributions have significantly impacted arts and culture on Long Island.
On April 15, 2024 Huntington Arts Council had a curated, multimedia celebration that encompassed the presentation of the Chapin Awards, film premiere, live tribute performances, and special raffle items.
The Huntington Arts Council will be recognizing two outstanding community leaders, each of whom are acclaimed in their own right for their dedication to the arts.
Leslie Ramme, previous Executive Director of the Harry Chapin Foundation was presented with the CHAPIN ARTS & HUMANITARIAN AWARD.
Jeremy Dennis, a contemporary fine art photographer, an enrolled Tribal Member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton, NY, and lead artist and founder of the non-profit Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio, Inc. on the Shinnecock Reservation was presented with the CHAPIN CULTURAL CONNECTOR AWARD.
