Into the Deep

The Huntington Arts Council is proud to announce Into the Deep Juried Exhibition, Juror Liz Fusco. The Opening Reception is Friday, April 28, 2017 from 6 -8 pm at the Main Street Gallery, 213 Main Street, Huntington NY 11743. This is a free event. The work is on display from April 27 – May 20, 2017.

The call to artists for this show was to interpret their vision of one’s relationship with the sea through 2 dimensional media utilizing Claus Hoie’s watercolors, which evoke the mysterious love affair between humans and the sea, as inspiration. This exhibition is in cooperation with The Whaling Museum and Education Center of Cold Spring Harbor.

“I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing submissions of artwork for “Into the Deep.” Using another artist’s work for inspiration; in this case, Claus Hoie, is such an interesting way to evoke a unique response from another artist. The deep recesses of the ocean are not places where humans can survive but somehow we are drawn and attracted to its beauty and mystery. Each painting I chose for this exhibit communicated this feeling either abstractly or representationally. I am excited to have been part of this show. It was also a great pleasure to work with Huntington Arts Council as partners with the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum.” said Liz Fusco, Juror.

Congratulations to all of the participating artists; Chris Arvans, Jennifer Berotti, Mary Ann Biehl, Elena Chestnykh, Kathy Cunningham, Ralph DeCarli, Christie Devereaux, Dr. Denise Douglas-Faraci, Lauren M. “Being based on Long Island and serving both Nassau and Suffolk counties, the Huntington Arts Council is surrounded by the beauty of the ocean and the LI Sound. The sea is an innate part of the lifestyle here and it seemed a “natural” decision to feature an exhibit with water as the inspiration. The work that is highlighted in the exhibit is beautiful. We are so happy to have partnered with The Whaling Museum and Education Center of Cold Spring Harbor, one of our long time organizational members. Please stop in and experience the show for yourself.” said Marc Courtade Executive Director.
