SUMMARY:Brooke Di Spirito presents Off-Broadway - The Opening
DESCRIPTION:Brooke Di Spirito (three-time HAC grant winner) is making her off-broadway playwriting debut this January!! This is her 8th show she has written and produced and is extremely grateful for this opportunity. \nn this side-splitting new musical comedy\, nothing is ever black and white. \nNewton Anderson\, a 17-year-old chess prodigy\, is facing the greatest player in the world: Carson Marlsen. With international notoriety and $100\,000 on the line\, Newton and his clueless best friend\, Jim\, hatch an…unconventional…plan to cheat. For curious theatre-goers and chess fans alike\, come on down to The Opening. Just maybe don’t bring your kids. \nThe Opening runs for one month only at the Players Theatre. \nPlease consider attending and buying tickets in support of a Long Island Artist!

SUMMARY:Heckscher Museum of Art presents Central Park's Bethesda Fountain Visits Heckscher Park Through Immersive AR Experience
DESCRIPTION:The Heckscher Museum of Art\, in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy—the nonprofit organization that manages Central Park—brings Emma Stebbins’ iconic Bethesda Fountain to life in Heckscher Park\, Huntington\, through an Augmented Reality (AR) experience. Visitors will be able to use their smartphones to experience the full monument in this new setting. The immersive experience will allow visitors to look thoughtfully at Stebbins’s magnificent work as they take a 360-degree virtual walk around the entire monument. This one-of-a kind event coincides with the seminal exhibition\, Emma Stebbins: Carving Out History.\nThe exhibition devotes a gallery to exploring the central role the Bethesda Fountain has played serving as a convening space\, cultural hub\, cinematic icon\, beacon for tourists\, and inspiration to other artists\, like Tony Kushner\, who placed the Bethesda Fountain at the center of his Pulitzer Prize winning play Angels in America\, and who wrote a foreword for the exhibition catalogue. After visiting the exhibition\, visitors will be able to experience the spectacular monument just a few feet outside the Museum doors.\nFor the best AR viewing\, visitors can use the QR codes easily accessible on Museum signage in areas in front of the Museum in Heckscher Park. Look for the Emma Stebbins AR in Apple or Google App Stores.

SUMMARY:Balanced Mind Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Balanced Mind Curriculum Conference (BMCC)\, in collaboration with Nassau NYSCAME\, provides educators with high-quality professional development in the areas of Art\, Dance\, Music\, and Theater. Educators share ideas with colleagues across Long Island\, New York\, with the overall aim of enhancing content knowledge and pedagogical skills\, promoting a culture of professional inquiry\, and addressing curricular connections.\nEric Fine will present his revolutionary approach to teaching music theory and demonstrate that all music\, including all theory terms and topics\, can be distilled into a single unifying concept. He will then illustrate how\, from an understanding of this one concept\, an organized overview of how all music works and is created naturally unfolds.

SUMMARY:(mostly) TRUE THINGS Storytelling Show
DESCRIPTION:(mostly) TRUE THINGS is a compelling evening of true stories – with a twist – told by a brilliant line-up of storytellers. Performers in this show will tell a story about a true experience from their own life\, on the theme CRAPPY ENDINGS.\nThere is a game in the show as well. Some of the stories include subtle little lies. The audience gets to question the storytellers\, who do not have to answer honestly\, just to make the game even more fun\, then votes for the person they think told it completely straight. There are prizes involved\, if you can believe that.\nWith music to set up each stage of the game and a semi-improvised song with a verse about each story\, this show is a great combination of comedy and heart.\nThe line-up:\nIan Goldstein – Ian’s work has appeared in The New Yorker\, McSweeney’s\, and he was featured in the New York Times for throwing a party dedicated to meeting his health care deductible. \nJamie Brickhouse – Called a natural raconteur by the Washington Post\, Jamie Brickhouse is a writer\, comedic storyteller\, TikTok sensation\, and public speaker. He’s the author of the critically acclaimed Dangerous When Wet: A Memoir of Booze Sex and My Mother (St. Martin’s Press). It’s “Required Reading” in Mary Karr’s The Art of Memoir; an Amazon Editors’ Pick (Biographies & Memoirs)\, an Amazon “Best Book of May 2015\,” and a Book Chase “2015 Nonfiction Top 10.” \nMary Theresa Archbold – Mary Theresa Archbold is an award-winning NYC-based performer who has appeared on Television (Law & Order: SVU\, Bull) and Stage (most recently in the 2018 Pulitzer Prize-winning Play Cost of Living). She was featured in This American Life and The Moth podcast. \nJezrie Mercano-Courtney writes and performs for Ubuntu (OO-BOON-TOO) Storytellers\, where true stories inspire audiences to think about the interconnected experience of being human. She has performed for Stories From The Stage\, Saul Fussiner’s Songs and Stories\, Story City at The Buttonwood Tree\, The New Haven International Festival of Arts and Ideas\, Storyteller’s New Haven\, The MOuTH-Off with Chion (Ki-own) Wolf and\, Tellabration! In New Haven and South Windsor\, CT. \nJude Treder-Wolff\, host/producer is a storyteller\, comedian\, singer/songwriter\, and improviser performing in shows on Long Island\, NYC\, and around the country. She is a Moth story slam winner\, host of the Improv In Real Life podcast\, recently featured on The Story Collider live show (and podcast dropping Sept 12) Generation Women at Joe’s Pub\, Story District in Washington\, D.C. Grapevine Storytelling in Washington\, D.C.\, The Armando Diaz Experience at Magnet Theater in NYC\, PBS Stories From The Stage\, Funny Over 50 at West Side Comedy Club\, RISK! live show and podcast multiple times and many others.
