SUMMARY:The Heckscher Museum of Art presents All of Me with All of You: LGBTQ+ Art Out of the Collection
DESCRIPTION:Artists who lived and worked on Long Island will anchor All of Me with All of You: LGBTQ+ Art Out of the Collection. Six photographs taken on Fire Island by the collective PaJaMa (Paul Cadmus\, Jared French\, and Margaret French) express the artistic and personal freedoms that LGBTQ+ communities nurtured on Long Island in the first half of the twentieth century. Photographs by Huntington artist Joanne Mulberg capture the spirit of Fire Island in the 1970s and 1980s. Artworks by internationally significant figures including Marsden Hartley\, Alfonso Ossorio\, Betty Parsons\, Alice Rahon\, Robert Rauschenberg\, and Emilio Sanchez are also featured\, alongside new acquisitions by Amy Adler\, Laylah Ali\, Vanessa German\, and Wardell Milan\, among others.\nThis project is made possible with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. With this generous support\, the Museum will engage youth and intergenerational community members in a robust year of exhibitions and public programming highlighting and celebrating works\, histories\, and legacies of LGBTQ+ artists in our permanent collection.

SUMMARY:The Heckscher Museum: Raise the Roof: The Home in Art
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the spaces we inhabit\, Raise the Roof encompasses more than 50 artworks from The Heckscher Museum’s collection that reflect the many meanings of home. The house is a site where daily life unfolds\, work takes place\, identities cohere and shift\, memories form\, and imagination take flight. The art on view in Raise the Roof: The Home in Art demonstrates the central role that our homes have played in our lives and in art. \nRaise the Roof debuts significant recent additions to the collection by contemporary artists such as Courtney M. Leonard\, Kenji Nakahashi\, Becky Suss\, and Stella Waitzkin\, and features a promised gift by sculptor Ed Haddaway. Never-before-exhibited photographs by Larry Fink and prints by Robert Dash are featured as are artworks by Romare Bearden\, Salvador Dali\, Olafur Eliasson\, Miriam Schapiro\, and Esphyr Slobodkina. Each artist’s work embodies home in a singular and intimate way.

SUMMARY:Heckscher Museum of Art Presents Global Asias: Contemporary Asian & Asian American Art from the Collection of Jordan D. Schnitzer
DESCRIPTION:Drawn from the multifaceted collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation\, The Heckscher Museum of Art’s exhibition Global Asias examines the cosmopolitan\, exuberant\, and subtly subversive works of 15 artists of Asian heritage who are adept at crossing borders – not only physical ones\, but also those in media\, styles\, genre\, and materials. \nGlobal Asias invites viewers to think about Asia not in singular but plural terms – encouraging audiences to understand Asia as a site of meaning across the globe. The artists in Global Asias were born in Japan\, China\, Korea\, Vietnam\, Argentina\, and the United States. The exhibition provides an opportunity to move away from considering Asia as a geographical location and instead invites viewers to think broadly about how “Asia” has long served as an imaginative construct.
