DESCRIPTION:The Art League of Long Island’s Open House will take place on Saturday\, August 19th from 11 am to 2pm. The Open House offers visitors an opportunity to learn more about its year-round art classes and summer programs and see what happens in the Art League’s specialized art studios. Free Art Kits to the first 100 visitors courtesy of Staples. \nArt League instructors will perform live art demonstrations in painting\, drawing\, ceramics\, jewelry making\, and printmaking\, catering to students of all ages. Some of these demos will be interactive\, allowing individuals and families to create fun art projects. Meet Summer Art Adventure Program Director Marianne Murphy and teaching assistants as kids work on fun hands-on activities. \nThe Art League is a not-for-profit art center offering more than 300 visual arts classes annually in a variety of mediums to adults\, teens\, and kids ages five and up. Classes\, workshops\, and open studios are offered to beginner\, intermediate\, and advanced students year-round\, in the mornings\, afternoons\, evenings\, and weekends. Students can register at any time throughout the year. Summer Programs are available for kids ages 5 to 14 and for older teens working on their college portfolios. In addition to the myriad art classes\, the Art League also hosts special events\, lectures\, and exhibits throughout the year. \nThe Art League of Long Island is located at 107 East Deer Park Road in Dix Hills\, right off exit 42N of the Northern State Parkway.

DESCRIPTION:The Art League of Long Island is thinking big with its presentation of “The BIG Picture.” Artists from the Tri-State area are invited to submit applications to show large 2D and 3D works in the League’s spacious Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery. SUMMARY:Art League of Long Island’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery Presents  “Time's Running Out: An iPhonography and 3D(isaster) Sculpture Exhibition” October 1 - 28
DESCRIPTION:The Art League of Long Island presents a body of digital photographic artwork and trash sculpture\, highlighting the contrast between nature’s beauty and the environmental pollution and decay found throughout the country\, including on Long Island’s roadways\, parks\, and beaches. The exhibit\, created by Scott Schneider’s Toxic/Nature Studios®\, is on view October 1 through October 28\, 2022. The opening reception on October 1 is from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and open to the public. \nScott Schneider states: “Toxic/Nature Studios® features environmental photography that celebrates the majesty of nature and laments its demise\, in small moments. Using close-up macro techniques\, the photographs express my appreciation for and concern about the environment. \nAs we become increasingly distracted by our devices\, we tend to overlook small disasters beneath our feet. Likewise\, we can fail to notice the beautiful moments present in nature. I explore these concepts in the “Toxic” and “Nature” galleries on the website\, ToxicNature.com. Beauty can also be found in the rust\, decay\, and textures of everyday objects\, which I highlight in the “Manufactor” gallery. \nAll photos are taken by me\, Scott Schneider\, with an iPhone\, thereby leveraging the power of technology to observe rather than to distract. I take photos every day\, no matter where I am or what I’m doing. I don’t go out to take pictures; I take pictures because I’m out. \nFrom my photographs\, I create archival\, digital pigment prints using environmentally friendly inks on bamboo paper\, which is highly sustainable. \nIn addition to my photos\, I have crafted a series of sculptural pieces which I’m calling “3D(isasters).” This thought-provoking artwork is designed to challenge the viewer to make sense of the quantity of litter displayed in a #finditfillit container. \nI hope that my art will inspire others to notice the world around them and to take action to preserve its natural beauty. We can’t do this while plugged in and tuned out. That’s why I ask viewers to unplug\, look around\, and get the small picture. By turning off our blinders of technology\, and noticing the small detail of a piece of litter\, a fallen petal\, or an interesting bit of rust\, we can then look up and notice the big picture\, which is that the world needs our help. \nThe Instagram account @toxicnaturestudios spreads awareness through my art. Its sister account\, @5.pieces.a.day.everyday\, encourages others to pick up litter\, thereby noticing and improving the environment. \nFurthering my mission\, a portion of sales is donated to charities that focus on protecting the environment.” \nThe Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery is open free of charge Tuesdays & Thursdays 10am-8pm\, and Fridays & Saturdays 10am-3pm. DESCRIPTION:Art League of Long Island Celebrates Grand Re-Opening with an Open House and Artists’ Reception August 20\, 2022 \nIn its grand re-opening event on August 20\, 2022\, the Art League of Long Island celebrates its triumph over adversity and invites the public to join them. The pandemic almost closed the Art League for good\, but through the support of the community and government programs\, the Art League has managed to weather the storm. The Open House\, which takes place from 11am to 2pm that day\, kicks off the opening reception of the Art League’s Annual Instructor’s Exhibition. \nThe Art League’s Annual Instructor’s Exhibition features works by its many talented instructors in the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery August 20 through September 22. The open house offers visitors a first-hand look at the inner-workings in the Art League’s specialized art studios through live demonstrations by the instructors. Demonstrations include painting\, drawing\, pottery\, jewelry making\, and more. Hands-on activities for all ages from 5 to 95+. Meet the instructors and learn about their classes and approach to teaching. Free Kits! First 100 Visitors Courtesy of Staples™. \nThe Art League is a not-for-profit art center offering hundreds of visual arts classes throughout the year in a variety of mediums to adults\, teens\, and kids ages five and up. Classes\, workshops\, and open studios are offered to beginner\, intermediate\, and advanced students year-round\, during the daytime\, evenings\, after school\, and Saturdays. Students can register at any time throughout the year. In addition to the myriad of art classes offered\, the Art League also hosts special events and lectures. \nThe Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery is open free of charge Tuesdays & Thursdays 10am-8pm\, and Fridays & Saturdays 10am-3pm.
