SUMMARY:Award-Winning Northport Artist\, Mary Ahern\, has been selected for a six-week Solo Exhibition at the historic Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeepsie\, NY
DESCRIPTION:Set on a hill overlooking the scenic Hudson River in Poughkeepsie\, New York\, Locust Grove includes a historic estate\, including art galleries\, a museum\, and a Nature Preserve with 200 acres of landscaped grounds and five miles of hiking trails. \nLocated in their Visitors Center\, the Transverse Gallery is dedicated to continuing the century-long tradition of displaying art by contemporary artists. Starting with Samuel Morse in the 1850s and continuing on with the Young family from 1895 through the 1970s\, art was a central focus of the estate & its owners. Locust Grove carries on that appreciation for art today at the Transverse Gallery\, with four solo exhibitions each year featuring selected artists. \nArtist Statement: In my garden\, I cultivate both plants & artistic inspiration. My art bridges garden & gallery\, inviting intimate observation of nature. Through my art\, I embed hidden philosophies discovered in my garden’s contemplative spaces.

SUMMARY:The Art Guild of Port Washington presents Autumnal Mixed Media Watercolor with Lois Bender
DESCRIPTION:Keeping the vibrant Autumn seasonal spirit in mind\, experimenting with more dry and wet media in our watercolors can add exciting contrasts with wax crayons\, oil pastels\, watercolor crayons\, acrylic ink or regular inks. They offer fun elements of “resist” textures of beading\, ragged sensitive linear edges\, inky lines and bright colorations\, etc\,…including happy accidents.\nSubjects will vary in the class according to your preference but Autumnal topics plus being adventurous with mixed media will inspire your spontaneity in making fluid discoveries which can expand your personal artistic style. \nOpen to all levels

SUMMARY:fotofoto gallery presents a SOLO EXHIBITION of PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKS by fotofoto gallery Artist Member: MARK MANCHER
DESCRIPTION:fotofoto gallery is excited to present “WE PROTEST\,” a Solo Exhibition of Photographic Works by fotofoto gallery Artist Member MARK MANCHER from October 122- November 14\, 2026. \n• ARTIST RECEPTION: Saturday\, October 24th from 5-7pm.\n• ARTIST TALK/PANEL DISCUSSION: Saturday\, November 14th at 2pm. \nfotofoto gallery\, 14 W. Carver Street\, Huntington\, NY 11743\nGallery Hours: Thurs. 12:30-4pm; Fri. Sat. Sun. 11am-6pm ;and by appointment. \nARTIST STATEMENT: “We Protest” by Mark Mancher \n“ I don’t protest to change the country\, I protest so that the country doesn’t change me.” A.J. Muste\nIt is startling to realize that in this Country’s 250 year history there have been no anti-government protests larger than those that occurred this past year. It has been said\, sometimes derisively\, that older Americans\, boomers and older\, are often in the vanguard. I think this is because we fear that everything positive accomplished during our lifetime\, including civil rights\, gender equality and preservation of representative democracy\, is in peril. These photographs are an attempt to document some of these protests and the people who participate. They are also a tribute\, to quote Dylan Thomas\, to those who “won’t go gentle into that good night\, but rage\, rage against the dying of the light.” \nMark Mancher is a street photographer who often processes his photos to give them a “photo-Illustrated” look. SUMMARY:fotofoto gallery presents a SOLO EXHIBITION of PHOTOGRAPHY by fotofoto gallery Artist Member: PAUL MELE
DESCRIPTION:fotofoto gallery is excited to present a solo exhibition of photogaphy: “Ten Times a Day\, Everyday\, a Stranger” by Artist Member\, Paul Mele from October 22- November 14\, 2026.\n• ARTIST RECEPTION: Saturday\, October 24th from 5-7pm.\n• ARTIST TALK / PANEL DISCUSSION: Saturday\, November 14th at 2pm. \nfotofoto gallery\, 14 W. Carver Street\, Huntington\, NY 11743\nGallery Hours: Thurs. 12:30-4pm; Fri. Sat. Sun. 11am-6pm ;and by appointment. \nARTIST STATEMENT: “Ten Times a Day\, Everyday\, a Stranger” by Paul Mele \nIn the winter of 2018\, my mother lost her battle with cancer. Watching her physically become immobile was difficult; hearing her forget who she was and who we were was heartbreaking. It was an experience I was never able to shake. The very thought of forgetting who I am\, and forgetting those I love\, frightens me. Death is\, sadly\, the nature of life\, but being forced to exist without knowing your own face in the mirror\, to me\, is far worse. A lifetime of memories washed away by the hands of senility. No one deserves that. Especially my mom.\nThe figures in Ten Times a Day are representations of beings trapped in a state of cognitive decline—a prison from which there is no escape. The erosion of reality is represented through the abandoned spaces; the light signifies the blurred line between the real and the imagined. While the figures can maneuver through this deteriorating hell\, they remain trapped within it. They roam until their candle burns out. \nSome will mourn (Death at a Great Distance)\, some will cower (Off Script)\, some will dance within lost memories (To Attempt Openness)\, and some will simply resign themselves to their fate (The Mourner of Parishad Days).\nThe figures in each photograph were AI-generated using specific sets of prompts designed to achieve both the emotions I wanted to convey and the movements I envisioned. They were built around their environments and strategically placed to become part of them—less like figures inhabiting a space and more like manifestations of the space itself. \nEach environment was shot entirely on location. The figures were later added in post and then edited together as one image to make it feel as “natural” as possible.

SUMMARY:fotofoto gallery presents a SOLO EXHIBITION of PHOTOGRAPHY by fotofoto gallery Artist Member: PAMELA WALDROUP
DESCRIPTION:fotofoto gallery is excited to present a solo exhibition of photogaphy: “Veiled Landscapes” by Artist Member\, Pamela Waldroup from October 22- November 14\, 2026.\n• ARTIST RECEPTION: Saturday\, October 24th from 5-7pm.\n• ARTIST TALK / PANEL DISCUSSION: Saturday\, November 14th at 2pm. \nfotofoto gallery\, 14 W. Carver Street\, Huntington\, NY 11743\nGallery Hours: Thurs. 12:30-4pm; Fri. Sat. Sun. 11am-6pm ;and by appointment. \nARTIST STATEMENT: “Veiled Landscapes” by Pamela Waldroup \nMy relationship with photography has always been rooted in a need to anchor myself to the world. From the moment I first picked up a camera\, it served as more than a tool for documentation; it became a vehicle to validate my personal connection to a specific time or place and a way to amplify my physical reactions to the environment. Over years of refining how I both photograph and edit\, I have learned to look past the literal geography of a place\, focusing instead on how a place feels. \nThis lifelong exploration finds a voice in Veiled Landscapes. Capturing these ephemeral\, mist-shrouded environments allows me to memorialize the tactile sensation of fog against my skin and the fleeting interplay of visual details that play hide-and-seek in the moment. I am guided deeply by the words of naturalist John Burroughs: “I go to nature to be soothed\, healed and have my senses put in order.” For me\, the fog acts as a natural editor\, stripping away the chaos of the everyday world to restore sensory orientation. \nThe resulting images are visual interpretations inspired by a deliberate\, constant awareness of the picture frame. By isolating quiet textures\, shifting tonalities\, and the delicate patterns of light and shadow\, I translate my internal state into tangible form. Through this careful curation of the frame\, I aim to create a space of quiet contemplation\, offering viewers the same possibility of discovery and emotional stillness that I experience behind the lens.

SUMMARY:Heckscher Museum of Art presents Eclipse of the Sun Now
DESCRIPTION:One hundred years ago\, George Grosz painted Eclipse of the Sun\, a scathing critique of fascism and one of the most significant artworks in the Heckscher Museum’s collection. This exhibition explores the painting’s enduring message alongside politically engaged art created over the last century. \nBorn in Berlin in 1893\, Grosz became a political artist in the aftermath of World War I. His Eclipse of the Sun\, created in 1926\, satirizes the corruption\, violence\, and apathy of the German government and society during this period. In the 1930s\, when the Nazis labeled him a “degenerate” artist\, Grosz fled to the United States. He and his family moved here\, to Huntington\, New York\, in 1947. Following his death in 1959\, the Heckscher Museum led a community fundraising campaign to purchase Eclipse of the Sun\, ensuring that it would remain accessible to the public as a cornerstone of the collection. \nThis exhibition places Eclipse of the Sun and other art by Grosz in dialogue with work by leading artists of our time drawn from the collections of the Heckscher Museum and the Art Bridges Foundation. The artworks on view address interrelated themes including war\, immigration\, civil rights\, mass media\, and the environment. Eclipse of the Sun Now celebrates the power of art—to offer solace\, to foster resistance\, and to channel hope. \nCurated by Karli Wurzelbacher\, PhD\, Chief Curator with Meredith A. Brown\, PhD\, Consulting Curator of Contemporary Art
