SUMMARY:Lifestage\, Inc presents MAKE AN IMPACT: How To Take Your True Story From The Page To The Stage
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop will teach how to find the stories in your actual life experiences and discuss the fundamentals of telling them with humor and heart.\nThe skills to tell a great story can elevate the impact of a professional presentation\, make our talk the one everyone remembers\, take a wedding toast\, or a personal tribute to an emotional high note. Through a well-told story\, information and facts flow\, and listeners are carried along with fascination and feeling. Learning to craft an authentic experience into a story meant to be told out loud is empowering\, useful\, and most importantly – fun! In this workshop\, we will engage in “story mining” exercises that help us view life experiences through a storytelling lens and identify experiences we wish to bring from the page to the stage. We will also learn the fundamental techniques for crafting a story that transports the listener and makes our story powerful and memorable. \nThis event will be held on zoom. The link will be emailed to all registered participants prior to the workshop.

SUMMARY:Jan Guarino presents Fearless Watercolors Workshop at Omega
DESCRIPTION:Watercolors have a reputation for being difficult. But watercolors can give you something as an artist that other media can’t—they do a great deal of the work for you. Unexpected results that can’t be repeated make each painting unique. You need to know how to control and give up control all at the same time. It should look and feel effortless—yet it takes an understanding of the medium. \nIn this workshop with award-winning artist and educator Jan Guarino\, explore one of the most important aspects of this medium—the element of surprise that happens when you get out of the way and allow the paint to move in water. Jan says that watercolor is all about how the paint flows and what happens in its wake. Deciding to control it or allow it takes time\, patience\, and practice. \nAs you relax and find ease in your body\, mind\, and soul through art\, you learn to: \nUnderstand how your paint will behave by embracing the beauty of watercolors\nControl brush strokes\nUnderstand color theory to avoid muddy results with color wheel\nCreate unique textures\nCorrect a watercolor with many different methods\nHave fun and so much more…. \nThe subjects we paint together will help us focus on the wonders of watercolors—things that we find in nature around the beautiful Omega campus. Enjoy a magical journey by embracing all the wonderful properties that watercolors offer us all.

SUMMARY:The Heckscher Museum of Art presents Emma Stebbins: Carving Out History
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is the first to recognize Emma Stebbins (1815–1882) as one of the most significant American sculptors of the nineteenth century. While her Bethesda Fountain in Central Park has been a global icon for 150 years\, the full scope of Stebbins’s life and work is virtually unknown. From 1857 to 1870\, she created innovative sculptures while living in Rome with her wife\, renowned Shakespearean actress Charlotte Cushman\, who championed her career. Stebbins modeled inventive and incisive interpretations of literary and biblical subjects\, unprecedented allegories of American industry\, and notable portraits of her friends and family. In 1863\, with the order for the Bethesda Fountain\, she became the first woman to earn a commission for a public sculpture from the city of New York. When Bostonians installed her statue of educator Horace Mann on the grounds of the Massachusetts State House in 1865\, she became the first woman in the country to complete an outdoor bronze monument. \nEmma Stebbins: Carving Out History brings together most of the artist’s rare extant work\, including a portrait drawing and several sculptures that will be on public view for the first time in a century. In addition to fourteen sculptures\, the exhibition features archival material including photographs that document lost marble sculptures and plaster studies that Stebbins never realized in stone or bronze. Stebbins completed the Bethesda Fountain to celebrate the Croton Aqueduct\, which brought clean drinking water to New York City. The inclusion of paintings and photographs by historic and contemporary artists including William Merritt Chase\, Martha Edelheit\, and Ricky Flores attest to its enduring relevance as a monument to health\, healing\, and peace. \nThe exhibition is curated by Karli Wurzelbacher\, PhD\, Chief Curator of The Heckscher Museum of Art\, which stewards the largest collection of Stebbins’s work. An extensive scholarly publication with a foreword by Pulitzer- and Tony-award winning playwright Tony Kushner accompanies the exhibition.

DESCRIPTION:fotofoto gallery presents CELL PHONE COMPOSITES Workshop with Andreas Rentsch: Sunday\, Sept. 28TH\, 10am-2pm \nWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: CELL PHONE COMPOSITES\n• Join us at fotofoto gallery for an exciting workshop with renowned photographer Andreas Rentsch! We will learn how to create constructed images using your cell phone by combining two or more images. Meaning is generated throughout the artistic process. It will be interesting to see how composites can evoke meanings that go beyond the narratives of the original images. Your decision-making and technical skills will play a major role in achieving a successful outcome.\n• Since the Snapseed application will be used to create the composite images\, a Snapseed tutorial will be part of the workshop. No fancy equipment is needed.\n• Prerequisite: A working knowledge of your cell phone is advised for participation in this workshop\, especially if you have a new phone. \nREGISTER AT EVENTBRITE LINK: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/phone-composite-workshop-with-andreas-rentsch-tickets-1559232088149 \nfotofoto gallery\, 14 West Carver Street\, Huntington\, NY 11743

SUMMARY:fotofoto gallery presents LUMEN PRINT Workshop with Andreas Rentsch: Sunday\, Sept. 14th\, 10am-2pm
DESCRIPTION:fotofoto gallery presents Lumen Print Workshop with Andreas Rentsch on Sunday\, September 7 · 10am – 2pm\nLearn how to create stunning images with lumen printing – no fancy equipment needed. Space is limited\, so be sure to reserve your spot today! No prerequisite is required. \nWorkshop Description / Making Lumen Prints\nAndreas will begin by sharing some of his own lumen prints\, along with examples created by his students. The remainder of the workshop will be hands-on\, giving you the opportunity to create your own lumen prints. A few days before the workshop\, you will receive additional information to help you prepare and complete one or more works during the session. The lumen process offers a poetic way to tell visual stories and capture the delicate beauty of botanical forms in light and shadow. \nLumen prints are made by placing objects on traditional black-and-white photographic paper and exposing them to UV-light for 45 minutes to 2 hours. No chemicals or water are used. In essence\, this is the making of a traditional photogram\, with one key distinction: while a photogram is created in the darkroom using an enlarger\, a lumen print requires exposure to UV rays. \nRegister Here: https://tinyurl.com/f9fv3y4t\nfotofoto gallery\, 14 West Carver Street\, Huntington\, NY 11743

SUMMARY:(mostly) TRUE THINGS Storytelling Show
DESCRIPTION:(mostly) TRUE THINGS is a compelling evening of true stories – with a twist – told by a brilliant line-up of storytellers. Performers in this show will tell a story about a true experience from their own life\, on the theme CRAPPY ENDINGS.\nThere is a game in the show as well. Some of the stories include subtle little lies. The audience gets to question the storytellers\, who do not have to answer honestly\, just to make the game even more fun\, then votes for the person they think told it completely straight. There are prizes involved\, if you can believe that.\nWith music to set up each stage of the game and a semi-improvised song with a verse about each story\, this show is a great combination of comedy and heart.\nThe line-up:\nIan Goldstein – Ian’s work has appeared in The New Yorker\, McSweeney’s\, and he was featured in the New York Times for throwing a party dedicated to meeting his health care deductible. \nJamie Brickhouse – Called a natural raconteur by the Washington Post\, Jamie Brickhouse is a writer\, comedic storyteller\, TikTok sensation\, and public speaker. He’s the author of the critically acclaimed Dangerous When Wet: A Memoir of Booze Sex and My Mother (St. Martin’s Press). It’s “Required Reading” in Mary Karr’s The Art of Memoir; an Amazon Editors’ Pick (Biographies & Memoirs)\, an Amazon “Best Book of May 2015\,” and a Book Chase “2015 Nonfiction Top 10.” \nMary Theresa Archbold – Mary Theresa Archbold is an award-winning NYC-based performer who has appeared on Television (Law & Order: SVU\, Bull) and Stage (most recently in the 2018 Pulitzer Prize-winning Play Cost of Living). She was featured in This American Life and The Moth podcast. \nJezrie Mercano-Courtney writes and performs for Ubuntu (OO-BOON-TOO) Storytellers\, where true stories inspire audiences to think about the interconnected experience of being human. She has performed for Stories From The Stage\, Saul Fussiner’s Songs and Stories\, Story City at The Buttonwood Tree\, The New Haven International Festival of Arts and Ideas\, Storyteller’s New Haven\, The MOuTH-Off with Chion (Ki-own) Wolf and\, Tellabration! In New Haven and South Windsor\, CT. \nJude Treder-Wolff\, host/producer is a storyteller\, comedian\, singer/songwriter\, and improviser performing in shows on Long Island\, NYC\, and around the country. She is a Moth story slam winner\, host of the Improv In Real Life podcast\, recently featured on The Story Collider live show (and podcast dropping Sept 12) Generation Women at Joe’s Pub\, Story District in Washington\, D.C. Grapevine Storytelling in Washington\, D.C.\, The Armando Diaz Experience at Magnet Theater in NYC\, PBS Stories From The Stage\, Funny Over 50 at West Side Comedy Club\, RISK! live show and podcast multiple times and many others.
