SUMMARY:Dance Visions NY presents “From a Distant Past”
DESCRIPTION:From a Distant Past is a reworking of an award-winning theatrical dance piece\, based on an original symbolic poem by Kyra Jucovy. Depicting a journey\, following a river from its source in caves all the way to the mouth of the ocean\, the poem symbolizes eternal cycles. This intimate performance piece consists of recorded text from the poem\, spoken by an actor over background music\, dance\,and projected imagery.\nThe work has rich and varied dynamics and includes beautiful and eerie depictions of nature through words\, movement\, costumes and imagery It encompasses timeless and timely themes of destruction leading to creation\, darkness to light\, endings to beginnings. Included is Isadora Duncan repertory in Grecian tunics\, adding to the mythic overtones. With discussion of the work with the artists.

DESCRIPTION:From a Distant Past is a reworking of our theatrical dance piece\, based on an original lyrical and symbolic poem by Kyra Jucovy. Depicting a journey\, following a river from its source in caves all the way to the mouth of the ocean\, the poem symbolizes eternal cycles. This intimate performance piece consists of recorded text from the poem\, spoken by actor Tzena Nicole over background music\, live dance with our company of 5 dance artists\, and projected imagery. \nThe work has rich and varied dynamics and includes beautiful and eerie depictions of nature through words\, movement\, costumes and imagery. Key themes include destruction leading to creation\, darkness to light\, endings to beginnings. This timeless and timely work continuously seems to address the world’s current issues. SUMMARY:BAFFA presents Annual Student Art Shows
DESCRIPTION:Every Spring BAFFA showcases the artwork of the local area’s elementary\, middle\, and high schools. This year the exhibits begin on March 2 and 3 with artwork by Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point elementary schools. Artwork by Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point Middle School students will be featured on March 16 and 17. Both exhibits can be seen at the BAFFA Art Gallery from 1 to 4 PM on those weekends. The exhibits are open to the public and are free. We hope the young artists’ moms and dads\, siblings\, uncles and aunts\, and grandparents will stop by the Gallery to view the children’s artwork.\nThe annual Juried Invitational High School Art Exhibition will take place on April 13 and 14 from 1 to 4 PM. Twelve area high schools will be represented in this year’s exhibition. They are Bayport-Blue Point\, Bayshore\, Bellport\, Brentwood\, Commack\, Connetquot\, Eastport-South Manor\, Longwood\, Patchogue-Medford\, Sachem East\, Sachem North\, and Sayville. This is always an exciting show with some of the best artwork by local high school students. Among the prizes to be awarded will be the Jacqueline C. Palmer Award\, the Olivia and Harlan Fischer Award\, and two awards from Women Sharing Art. The award ceremony will take place on April 13 from 2-3 PM. The show is open to the public and is free.
