SUMMARY:Dance Visions NY presents “From a Distant Past\, Part 1” with WAXworks
DESCRIPTION:This new intimate manifestation of a past Dance Visions NY work is based on an original poem and is created with 3 dancers. With mythic overtones\, it addresses timeless and timely themes of dark and light\, destruction and creation\, and cycles of endings and beginnings. Using the spoken poem over background music\, and incorporating Isadora Duncan dance repertory\, it is the first of a 3-part symbolic work following a river as it makes its way toward the ocean.\nJoining us in this WAXworks program are 6 other emerging and established choreographers sharing new works.

SUMMARY:The Art Guild of Port Washington Features Silk Scarf Batik with Oksan Danziger
DESCRIPTION:The Serti (closing or fence) technique is the silk painting technique where designs are outlined with gutter water-based resists\, which are applied to white silk that has been bleached\, dried and stretched. Once the gutta or water-based resist has dried\, it acts as a barrier for the dye or paint keeping the color within the outlined areas of design and allowing you to achieve sharply defined borders. After the dye or paint has been properly set\, the clear gutta or resist is removed\, defining the color where the original line of fabric remains. This technique comes to us from Indonesia and originally used a wax as a resist. \nWe will learn how to transfer your design onto silk and outline a template on fabric\, finishing up by painting with special silk dye.
