DESCRIPTION:Dance Visions NY \, under the direction of Beth Jucovy\, will be back at Elmont Library with a premiere of a new program “Art and Music in Motion.” The concert features new dance and dance/theater works with projected imagery\, adding new layers to series’ of original paintings by local visual artists as well as new dance pieces inspired by various genres of music. Featured will be “Subway Windows\,” a work in which groups of diverse subway riders engage in the NY ritual of ignoring each other. Dance and the projected imagery provide a glimpse into each riders’ psyche. This program is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Huntington Arts Council\, Inc.

DESCRIPTION:Solo Exhibition of the work of the artist Mary Ahern at The Atelier at Flowerfield\, in St. James NY. April 14 – May 31\, 2024. Reception TBA.\nARTIST STATEMENT:\nAs a passionate gardener\, my art is as intricately entwined as the gardens surrounding my studio. The lessons learned from the garden permeate my work. \nWith boldness in color & scale my art summons\, with seeming simplicity\, the complex questions of existence and purpose. These flowers represent a microcosm of the universe in their families and community as well as their quest for survival\, eventual senescence and rebirth. \nThe interconnectedness and balance\, whether of the cosmos in which we exist here on earth or that of an ephemeral flower flirting with a butterfly in the midst of a garden\, call our attention to the fragility and interdependency of our existence. With a duality of macro and micro vision\, my flowers invite the viewer to see\, larger than life\, the intricacy and purpose of their existence. And in their boldness\, I suggest a contemplation of their relevance and ours in the social order of our universe.

DESCRIPTION:The annual Juried Invitational High School Art Exhibition presented by the Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts (BAFFA)\, will take place on April 13 and 14 from 1 to 4 PM at the BAFFA Art Gallery. Twelve area high schools will be represented in this year’s exhibition. They are Bayport-Blue Point\, Bayshore\, Bellport\, Brentwood\, Commack\, Connetquot\, Eastport-South Manor\, Longwood\, Patchogue-Medford\, Sachem East\, Sachem North\, and Sayville. This is always an exciting show with some of the best artwork by local high school students. Among the prizes to be awarded will be the Jacqueline C. Palmer Award\, the Olivia and Harlan Fischer Award\, and two awards from Women Sharing Art. The award ceremony will take place on April 13 from 2-3 PM. The show is open to the public and is free. SUMMARY:BAFFA presents Annual Student Art Shows
DESCRIPTION:Every Spring BAFFA showcases the artwork of the local area’s elementary\, middle\, and high schools. This year the exhibits begin on March 2 and 3 with artwork by Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point elementary schools. Artwork by Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point Middle School students will be featured on March 16 and 17. Both exhibits can be seen at the BAFFA Art Gallery from 1 to 4 PM on those weekends. The exhibits are open to the public and are free. We hope the young artists’ moms and dads\, siblings\, uncles and aunts\, and grandparents will stop by the Gallery to view the children’s artwork.\nThe annual Juried Invitational High School Art Exhibition will take place on April 13 and 14 from 1 to 4 PM. Twelve area high schools will be represented in this year’s exhibition. They are Bayport-Blue Point\, Bayshore\, Bellport\, Brentwood\, Commack\, Connetquot\, Eastport-South Manor\, Longwood\, Patchogue-Medford\, Sachem East\, Sachem North\, and Sayville. This is always an exciting show with some of the best artwork by local high school students. Among the prizes to be awarded will be the Jacqueline C. Palmer Award\, the Olivia and Harlan Fischer Award\, and two awards from Women Sharing Art. The award ceremony will take place on April 13 from 2-3 PM. The show is open to the public and is free.
