SUMMARY:Artist Member Mary Ahern presents Portraits From My Garden
DESCRIPTION:Mary Ahern\, the renowned Northport artist\, has been invited to display her award-winning Flower Portraits at the historic Locust Manor Historic Site in Poughkeepsie\, NY\, for a two-and-a-half-month solo exhibition. With degrees in both Fine Art and Horticulture\, Mary has discovered that cultivation and creation are inseparable — her garden serving as both muse and teacher\, its cycles of growth\, senescence\, and rebirth informing everything that emerges in her studio. Working in bold scale and vivid detail\, she layers pigments to capture not just what flowers look like\, but what they feel like\, blending abstraction and realism into luminous paintings that pulse with life and color. Her Flower Portraits are celebrations of beauty and resilience — love letters to the natural world that invite viewers to look beyond surface appearances and discover their own connection to the living world around them.

SUMMARY:Divas & Decibels Productions presents Show and Tell: The Grown Ass Woman's Edition
DESCRIPTION:Remember how exciting Show & Tell felt as a kid? \nThat moment when you got to bring something into the room — a dance routine\, a drawing\, a story\, a weird obsession\, a big idea — and say: this is mine. \nWe’re bringing that feeling back\, grown-woman style.\nInteresting in Sharing!?!? Tell us more about it here: forms.gle/8VVQsLbytdzoGwQQ8 \nYou do not have to be presenting to attend. \nWitnessing is the most important part of the experience. Come to support\, connect\, be moved\, and remember what it feels like to be in a room full of women brave enough to show themselves. \nShow & Tell: The Grown-Ass Woman Edition is a curated women’s gathering where we reclaim the parts of ourselves we’ve set aside — and discover the ones still unfolding. \nPart performance\, part women’s gathering\, part creative spark — this is a space to be witnessed. \nHosted and facilitated by Bianca Lucia and Alyssa Jayson\, Co-Founders of Divas & Decibels Productions & The Faire Lilith Tribute\, this gathering brings together their shared backgrounds in performance\, mentorship\, and women-centered creative spaces. Together\, they’re creating a community space that doesn’t require sameness — just the courage to show up\, share\, and witness one another. \nExpect an intentional opening\, curated shares of songs\, stories\, spoken word\, art\, ideas\, dreams\, unfinished thoughts\, business concepts\, and whatever else is ready to be brought forward.

SUMMARY:Jan Guarino presents Fearless Portraits in Watercolors
DESCRIPTION:Watercolor invites the unexpected and portraits can be tricky. In this workshop\, you’ll learn to embrace it\, work with the medium and turn it into something uniquely your own. \nThis workshop will focus on the art of the portrait—bringing expression\, character\, and life into your watercolor work.\nI’ll be demonstrating throughout the class—the very heart of how we learn—so you can see each step in action and understand the “why” behind every decision. \nYou’ll also receive individual guidance and constructive critiques to help you grow with clarity and confidence. \nI truly enjoy sharing my watercolor techniques\, theories\, and the joy of painting with my students. My hope is that you discover that same enjoyment—interpreting your world through paint\, color\, splatters\, and drips.

SUMMARY:The Whaling Museum presents Beyond the Book: Travels with George
DESCRIPTION:Wed\, June 24 | Adults\n6:30 PM | Register to Save Your Spot\nTravels with George: In Search of Washington and his Legacy by Nathaniel Philbrick \nIn time for summer road trip season\, join us to discuss this unique blend of history book and travel narrative from the award-winning author of In the Heart of the Sea. In Travels with George\, Philbrick retraces Washington’s 1789 presidential tour through the loose and quarrelsome confederation of ex-colonies in an attempt to sell citizens on the new government and the idea of being “American.” Alongside his wife and dog\, Philbrick follows Washington from Mount Vernon to the new capital in New York and eventually out onto Long Island (and through Cold Spring Harbor) while considering how the nation’s early history is understood and commemorated today\, all while grappling with the moral tangle of Washington’s legacy. \nFree for museum members and library patrons of Cold Spring Harbor\, Huntington and South Huntington Libraries. $15 Non-Member \nThis event is part of our “Liberty at Sea” series—a new year long program commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Bring your passport to the program and get a passport stamp!

SUMMARY:Jazz at the Barn and Cinema Arts Centre present Reel Jazz: The Girls in the Band and live music from Danica
DESCRIPTION:Presented as part of the Reel Jazz Series\, the ongoing collaboration between the Cinema Arts Centre and Jazz at the Barn\, this special program combines film and live performance in celebration of the women who helped shape jazz history.\nThe afternoon begins with a screening of The Girls in the Band\, the acclaimed documentary chronicling the groundbreaking female jazz and big band instrumentalists whose contributions transformed American music. During the 1930s and 40s\, hundreds of women toured the country in glamorous all-girl bands\, while others performed alongside their male counterparts in leading jazz ensembles. Yet by the 1950s\, many female jazz musicians had disappeared from the professional scene\, their stories and accomplishments largely forgotten. Through rare archival footage and personal interviews\, The Girls in the Band brings these powerful and inspiring stories back into the spotlight. (2011\, 81 mins)\nThe screening will be paired with a live performance by DANICA\, an all-women jazz ensemble led by vocalist Audrey Silver with guitarist Alicyn Yaffee and pianist Hyuna Park. Known for soulful\, collaborative\, and nuanced performances\, the group celebrates the artistry\, creativity\, and enduring influence of women in jazz.
