SUMMARY:Long Island Craft Guild presents General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Bari and Marty Fagin will present a life of craft. Bari’s professional objectives include creating one-of-a-kind works that explore and blur the boundaries of combining printmaking\, painting\, drawing and collage. Each of her pieces aims to draw the viewer into the depths of a unique world. Marty is inspired by materials\, textures\, colors\, and shapes and he combines them in unexpected ways. After creating a ceramic vessel\, he considers it a canvas. His pieces often begin with a general concept of what the project will look like\, but they evolve as he creates. He takes each piece on a journey\, each down many roads with different results. He considers himself an artist who happens to be a potter. All are welcome. Syosset Library (Downstairs) 225 S. SUMMARY:Artist Member Jo Wadler featured in Instincts: Art Talk
DESCRIPTION:ArTalk\nSaturday\, November 14\, 5pm – 7pm \nGallery North is pleased to present INSTINCTS: Schery Markee-Sullivan\,\nGina Mars and Jo Wadler. Instincts brings together painter and mixed\nmedia artist\, Schery Markee-Sullivan; sculptor and wearable artist\, Jo\nWader; and ceramicist and sculptor\, Gina Mars for their first exhibition\ntogether at Gallery North. Driven by instinct\, their work\, in turn\,\nconveys the human experience. Each piece balances technique\, fluid\nexperimentation and an exploration of material interaction\, appearing\nboth ancient and contemporary. Wader’s wearables question the\nboundary between art and adornment\, through objects meant to be\nworn\, experienced\, and integrated into daily life. There are complex\nsurfaces in the dynamic color\, line and energy of Markee-Sullivan\nmixed media paintings and vibrant glazes and textures within Mars’\nvessels. Each surface is a conduit for expression and dialogue and\neach work is evocative of the artist’s personal narrative.

SUMMARY:The Whaling Museum presents Beyond the Book: Gales of November
DESCRIPTION:Wed\, Nov. 18 | Adults\n6:30 PM | Register to Save Your Spot \nGales of November: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald by John U. Bacon\nJoin us as we explore one of the most enduring mysteries in Great Lakes maritime history. Drawing on decades of research\, interviews\, and newly available evidence\, Bacon revisits the tragic 1975 sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald\, offering fresh insight into the storm\, the ship\, and the crew members who were lost. Together\, we’ll discuss the challenges of navigating inland seas\, the dangers faced by commercial mariners\, and how advances in weather forecasting\, ship design\, and maritime safety have evolved in the decades since the disaster. We’ll also consider why the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald continues to captivate readers and inspire reflection on the power of nature and the resilience of those who work on the water. \nFree for museum members and library patrons of Cold Spring Harbor\, Huntington and South Huntington Libraries. $15 Non-Member

SUMMARY:The Firefly Artists present 21st Annual Northport Leg Lamp Lighting
DESCRIPTION:A CELEBRATION OF LOCAL ART AND ARTISTS\nTwenty-one years ago\, the Mayor of Northport was visiting the proprietors of The Northport Hardware Company. Together\, they stumbled upon an old gag gift. Laughing\, they stuck it in the front window\, and gave it an honorary salute. From that quirky moment\, the Northport Leg Lamp Lighting has grown to become a beloved\, all-community celebration of local talent\, small-town charm and our village’s unique ability to unite over something delightfully whimsical to create something truly spectacular. \nStewarded by The Firefly Artists since moving into the building where it all started\, the event is freely offered by local performing artists and made possible by the Village and folks who love it. Featured performers include members of The Northport High School Tigerettes\, Posey School of Dance\, the Community Playhouse of Northport and the Viki Sorrentino Foundation. We encourages attendees to come early\, get a good start on their holiday shopping\, enjoy our delicious restaurants\, and then join us for a reception at the Firefly after the main event. \nCome one\, come all! The Firefly is grateful to all who will join us in supporting this decades-old community tradition. Sponsors are welcome\, and we warmly encourage folks to shop Main Street and support the local merchants who help keep all sorts of wonderful traditions alive. We also hope you will support the Island Harvest essentials drive that occurs in our gallery throughout the holiday season. \nIt’s a most wonderful time of the year!
