SUMMARY:Concerts by the Pond presents: Trio Fadolin
DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED FROM FEBRUARY 9! \nSabina Torosjan\, violin; Ljova\, fadolín\, Valeriya Sholokhova\, cello \nAbout the program: \nTrio Fadolín performs an eclectic repertoire from around the world and across the ages\, featuring music from Eastern Europe\, Scandinavia\, Latin-inspired grooves and much more\, all featuring the fadolín\, a unique string instrument that encompasses the range of the violin\, viola and cello. \nAbout the artists: \nTrio Fadolín is a new ensemble with a unique sonority — featuring Sabina Torosjan on violin\, Valeriya Sholokhova on cello\, and Ljova\, performing on the fadolín – a new instrument that encompasses the range of the violin\, viola\, and most of the cello\, finding its footing in an acoustic chamber music setting for the first time. In our inaugural season\, Trio Fadolín has been presented by Lincoln Center\, Carnegie Hall\, The Kennedy Center\, the brand new Perelman Performing Arts Center (PACNYC) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We formed during the COVID-19 pandemic — our first performances were in the summer of 2021 on a makeshift at the Javits Convention Center mass vaccination site\, operated by the US Army and sponsored by Sing for Hope. As our opportunities to play together grew\, our repertoire evolved steadily — it now includes works by Ukrainian composers Vasyl Barvinsky\, Mykola Kolessa\, and Miroslav Skoryk\, Spanish-American composer Andrea Casarrubios\, Estonian-American composer Lembit Beecher\, folk music from Armenia\, Denmark\, Sweden and Romania\, in addition to original works by our fadolínist\, Ljova. All three of us are graduates of The Juilliard School. \nTrio Fadolín is the recipient of the Ensemble Forward grant from Chamber Music America and the New York Community Trust\, as part of which we will spend some time this year working on a new project with the Syrian clarinettist and composer Kinan Azmeh. This spring we were the inaugural ensemble-in-residence at Interlochen Public Radio\, where we recorded material for our forthcoming debut album. We’ve also completed our first East Coast tour with stops in Washington\, Baltimore\, Philadelphia and New York. \nOur focus is multifaceted — on the one hand\, we are exploring the unique sonority of the acoustic fadolín (six-string violin\, with low C and F strings) within a trio context\, using it — for the first time in history — as an integral instrument in an acoustic chamber music setting. \nOn the other hand\, we also share a deep personal connection — all three of us grew up in the former Soviet Union and arrived in New York as teens. Sabina was born in Estonia of Armenian-Jewish heritage; Valeriya was born in Ukraine of Ukrainian\, Jewish\, and Russian heritage; Ljova was born in Moscow\, Russia\, of Ukrainian-Jewish\, German-Jewish\, Polish and Romanian heritage. We share a common bond of immigration\, Eastern European literature\, humor\, animation and music. \nWe are here to tell the complicated story\, to tell the stories of immigrant composers\, to collaborate with immigrant artists\, to showcase places where cultures intersect.

SUMMARY:Fearless Watercolors at the Palm Beach Watercolor Society
DESCRIPTION:I was once you … seeking and searching for teachers\, classes\, workshops\, dvds\, books\, magazines\, on-line sites – anyone\, anywhere to help me find myself in this incredible medium. I wanted to learn whatever I could to advance my art. Sometimes I was elated on what happened in a class\,\nbut mostly it lead to disappointment – BUT there were pearls worthy of holding onto and integrating into my work. \nIt was from that very frustration I created my classes – based on what I needed as a student and didn’t get. I took the very best of these opportunities and created my workshops and classes – with an array of techniques in painting in watercolors and as an instructor as well.\nYou may not know me\, but I know you. As a student I understand what you wish to get from a workshop and as a teacher I know how to deliver it. I welcome you join me on an amazing 2 day workshop that will be filled with the best of the best. SUMMARY:Chamber Music at Caroline Episcopal Church: Emotional Landscapes
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a joyful evening of chamber music at Caroline Episcopal Church on March 16th at 4:00PM! \nMusicians:\nGergana Haralampieva\, violin\nChelsea Wang\, piano \nProgram:\nStill\, Suite for Violin and Piano\nDavidson\, Blue Curve of the Earth\nBeethoven\, Sonata No. 5 “Spring”\nBrahms\, Violin Sonata No. 3 \nAbout the program: \nEmotional Landscapes is a captivating musical journey with pieces by Beethoven\, Brahms\, Davidson\, and Still. This concert brings together a diverse selection of works for violin and piano that explore a spectrum of human emotions and natural beauty. Inspired by sculptures from his contemporaries from the Harlem Renaissance\, William Grant Still’s Suite for Violin and Piano intertwines classical and African-American musical traditions to evoke rich emotional and cultural narratives. The second piece on the program is “Blue Curve of the Earth\,” by Tina Davidson. This contemporary piece explores the composer’s observation and emotional response to the beauty of nature’s grandeur. \nBeethoven’s “Spring Sonata” is a classical masterpiece that embodies the joy and renewal of spring\, bridging the emotional landscapes of the earlier pieces with its lightness and lyrical grace. The evening concludes with Brahms’ Sonata No. 3\, a profound work of deep expressiveness that ties together the themes of the concert. Set in the elegant Great Hall of the Main House\, this performance offers a seamless blend of historical and contemporary influences\, inviting you to take part in a rich dialogue between past and present interpretations of the human experience. \nAbout Long Island Chamber Music:\nLong Island Chamber Music (LICM) is a classical music non-profit organization founded with the mission of making professional classical music of the highest caliber accessible to Long Island audiences. \nLICM musicians are all drawn from Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect\, the New York Philharmonic\, Boston Symphony Orchestra\, Concert Artist Guild\, and several other of the country’s most prominent musical institutions. In addition to being leaders in their art form\, LICM musicians are teaching artists\, entrepreneurs\, and socially-minded advocates for classical music.

SUMMARY:Jan Guarino presents Fearless Watercolors in Amelia Island
DESCRIPTION:I was once you … seeking and searching for teachers\, classes\, workshops\, dvds\, books\, magazines\, on-line sites – anyone\, anywhere to help me find myself in this incredible medium. I wanted to learn whatever I could to advance my art. Sometimes I was elated on what happened in a class\, but mostly it lead to disappointment – BUT there were pearls worthy of holding onto and integrating into my work. \nIt was from that very frustration I created my classes – based on what I needed as a student and didn’t get. I took the very best of these opportunities and created my workshops and classes – with an array of techniques in painting in watercolors and as an instructor as well. \nYou may not know me\, but I know you. As a student I understand what you wish to get from a workshop and as a teacher I know how to deliver it. I welcome you join me on an amazing 2 day workshop that will be filled with the best of the best. It will be tangible and is meant to be adaptable to enhance your own work. \nThis program is a culmination of techniques I’ve discovered and practice in every class and workshop:\n• Basic supply setup\n• Color Wheel – how to use analogous and complimentary colors\n• Learn why you get muddy paintings\n• Color Temperature – light\, warmth\, cool & shadows\n• 2 Magic Ingredients – learn the intelligence of watercolors\n• Soft & Hard Edges – where and why\n• Develop your Impact Area\n• Easy Composition\n• Correction Techniques\n• Embrace Blossoms\, Drips & Splatters . . . and more\nall while painting beautiful male and female cardinals & sailboats with sky\, land and water.
