SUMMARY:The Heckscher Museum of Art presents Robert Graham Carter: The Art of Reflection
DESCRIPTION:Robert Graham Carter (American\, b. 1938) is a visual artist best known for his mixed-media works including commanding drawings; sculptural\, high-relief paintings; and whimsical works on wood. Carter’s figurative compositions routinely speak to systemic societal issues with a specificity derived from his lived experiences. Created over the last sixty years drawing influence from his upbringing in the Jim Crow South\, Robert’s figurative compositions balance personal and universal truths\, with a focus on topics pertinent to the African-American condition: the joy and importance of family\, the legacy of segregation\, the charm of childhood\, the spiritual and corporal force that is the Black church\, and the impression of Blackface on American culture. This 2025 presentation explores his studio practice and his unique painterly voice as it traces overarching impactful themes from his lifelong career. \nConceived in direct collaboration with the artist\, this exhibition is curated by Sarah Battle\, associate projects manager of academic programs and publications\, Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts\, National Gallery of Art\, with support from Camille Pratt\, artist\, and digitization specialist\, Digital Transitions-Pixel Acuity.

DESCRIPTION:Harvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond\, a solo exhibition by Sherry Davis. Join us Friday\, September 5th\, 5 – 8PM for the opening reception. All are welcome to attend. \nHarvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond\, traces the development of Sherry’s recent large scale work Harvesting Memories in Blue. The exhibition presents an in-depth exploration of the creation\, challenges\, and impact of a 12-foot geodesic sphere created from over 1\,000 pairs of upcycled denim jeans\, installed in a farm field in Riverhead\, NY. As an immersive\, multimedia experience\, Harvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond\, uses photographs\, video\, related artwork\, new pieces\, and a panel discussion to explore the significance\, environmental\, and community dimensions of her work. This exhibition shares Sherry’s vision as a fiber artist\, rooted in sustainability and collective storytelling\, while honoring East End farmers and addressing textile waste. \nHarvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond is on display through October 12th\, 2025 in our Main Street Gallery\, 213 Main St\, Huntington\, and on our website\, link in bio. \nMain Street Gallery hours: Tues – Fri\, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM\, some weekends. DESCRIPTION:The Heckscher Museum of Art welcomes all couples to celebrate love\, art\, and joy\, while having their marriage vows renewed and or officiated\, by Huntington Town Clerk Andrew Raia\, on the steps of the Heckscher Museum in beautiful Heckscher Park. \nHuntington Town Clerk Andrew Raia will be performing marriage ceremonies\, for free\, by appointment\, from 10 am to 12 pm\, every 20 minutes. Couples must register ahead of time to secure a time slot for Saturday September 6th\, and must visit the Town Clerk’s office at least 24 hours in advance of the ceremony to secure a marriage license. \nAt 12 pm\, any couple wanting to renew their vows (or participate in a celebratory non-binding ceremony) are welcome to take part in a joyful group ceremony on the Heckscher Museum terrace. Registration for the group ceremony is also required and can be done below. Photographs will be available for purchase by participants. Proceeds will support the non-profit Museum’s future public programming. \nThe event is being organized\, in connection with the Museum’s current exhibition\, All of Me with All of You: LGBTQ+ Art Out of the Collection\, to celebrate the important 10 year milestone anniversary of the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision recognizing same-sex couples’ right to marry in the United States.

DESCRIPTION:(mostly) TRUE THINGS is a compelling evening of true stories – with a twist – told by a brilliant line-up of storytellers. Performers in this show will tell a story about a true experience from their own life\, on the theme CRAPPY ENDINGS.\nThere is a game in the show as well. Some of the stories include subtle little lies. The audience gets to question the storytellers\, who do not have to answer honestly\, just to make the game even more fun\, then votes for the person they think told it completely straight. There are prizes involved\, if you can believe that.\nWith music to set up each stage of the game and a semi-improvised song with a verse about each story\, this show is a great combination of comedy and heart.\nThe line-up:\nIan Goldstein – Ian’s work has appeared in The New Yorker\, McSweeney’s\, and he was featured in the New York Times for throwing a party dedicated to meeting his health care deductible. \nJamie Brickhouse – Called a natural raconteur by the Washington Post\, Jamie Brickhouse is a writer\, comedic storyteller\, TikTok sensation\, and public speaker. He’s the author of the critically acclaimed Dangerous When Wet: A Memoir of Booze Sex and My Mother (St. Martin’s Press). It’s “Required Reading” in Mary Karr’s The Art of Memoir; an Amazon Editors’ Pick (Biographies & Memoirs)\, an Amazon “Best Book of May 2015\,” and a Book Chase “2015 Nonfiction Top 10.” \nMary Theresa Archbold – Mary Theresa Archbold is an award-winning NYC-based performer who has appeared on Television (Law & Order: SVU\, Bull) and Stage (most recently in the 2018 Pulitzer Prize-winning Play Cost of Living). She was featured in This American Life and The Moth podcast. \nJezrie Mercano-Courtney writes and performs for Ubuntu (OO-BOON-TOO) Storytellers\, where true stories inspire audiences to think about the interconnected experience of being human. She has performed for Stories From The Stage\, Saul Fussiner’s Songs and Stories\, Story City at The Buttonwood Tree\, The New Haven International Festival of Arts and Ideas\, Storyteller’s New Haven\, The MOuTH-Off with Chion (Ki-own) Wolf and\, Tellabration! DESCRIPTION:fotofoto gallery presents Lumen Print Workshop with Andreas Rentsch on Sunday\, September 7 · 10am – 2pm\nLearn how to create stunning images with lumen printing – no fancy equipment needed. Space is limited\, so be sure to reserve your spot today! No prerequisite is required. \nWorkshop Description / Making Lumen Prints\nAndreas will begin by sharing some of his own lumen prints\, along with examples created by his students. The remainder of the workshop will be hands-on\, giving you the opportunity to create your own lumen prints. A few days before the workshop\, you will receive additional information to help you prepare and complete one or more works during the session. The lumen process offers a poetic way to tell visual stories and capture the delicate beauty of botanical forms in light and shadow. \nLumen prints are made by placing objects on traditional black-and-white photographic paper and exposing them to UV-light for 45 minutes to 2 hours. No chemicals or water are used.
