SUMMARY:The Paramount Presents Ashley McBryde
DESCRIPTION:Ashley McBryde cut her teeth playing country songs in rural biker bars – and it shows. Her 2018 major label debut Girl Going Nowhere (Warner Music Nashville) charmed the New York Times\, NPR\, Rolling Stone\, Paste\, The Washington Post\, and more\, all en route to landing a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album. McBryde closed out 2019 with ACM New Female Artist\, CMT Breakout Artist of the Year\, a New Artist of the Year win at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards and two nominations for the 2020 GRAMMYs for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere.” Her follow-up Never Will\, released April 3\, was tagged by Rolling Stone as one of the most anticipated of the year alongside NPR\, who also ranked her lead Top 10 RIAA Gold-Certified single “One Night Standards” as one of the best songs of 2019. Produced once again by Jay Joyce\, Never Will reveals the witty\, confessional\, detail-driven songwriting addressing a wide spectrum of blue-collar Southern women’s experience introduced on Girl Going Nowhere is still here\, but perhaps even sharper\, earning McBryde a 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album\, along with 2021 ACM nominations for Album of the Year\, Female Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for lead single “One Night Standards.” The music itself is stadium-ready rock-and-roll with a bluegrass wink or two and country music’s storytelling heart––and McBryde\, no longer new\, is the music’s ordained and highly capable standard bearer. For more information\, visit AshleyMcBryde.com or follow her at Facebook.com/AshleyMcBryde\, Instagram @AshleyMcBryde and Twitter at @AshleyMcBryde.

SUMMARY:EastLine Theatre presents In the Next Room\, or the vibrator play by Sarah Ruhl
DESCRIPTION:Sarah Ruhl’s romantic comedy about the invention of the vibrator comes to Lindenhurst this August. \n“It used to be that it would take hours to produce a paroxysm in our patients\nbut thanks to this new electrical instrument we shall be done in a matter of minutes!” \nSet at the dawn of the age of electricity in a seemingly perfect\, well-to-do Victorian home\, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating “hysteria” in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor’s laboratory\, his young and energetic wife Catherine tries to tend to their newborn daughter – and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. \nEastLine Theatre in association with the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts will present Pulitzer finalist Sarah Ruhl’s Tony-nominated In the Next Room\, or the vibrator play this August in Lindenhurst. \nThis event is made possible through the support of the Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs and the Alliance of Resident Theatres / New York. \nIn the Next Room\, or the vibrator play by Sarah Ruhl is directed by Danny Higgins\, presented by EastLine Theatre in partnership with the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts\, with support from the Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs\, intimacy direction by Francesca Betancourt\, stage management by Julianna Frasca\, and with costumes by Lynn Ciorciari. \nThe cast of In the Next Room\, or the vibrator play features Martin Balaguer\, Bryanna Bradley\, Margaret Brigid\, Paul DeFilippo\, John Dorcic\, Julie Fergus\, and Nicole Savin. \nEastLine Theatre is a nonprofit theatre company that BroadwayWorld calls ‘Long Island’s best kept secret’. EastLine aims to create theatre in unlikely spaces while re-examining the canon\, exploring modern plays\, and bringing original works to the attention of the community. \nEastLine Theatre returns to the BACCA Center after February’s sold-out production of Intimate Apparel. In summer 2021\, EastLine toured Long Island parks with an acclaimed production of Romeo & Juliet. In recent years\, EastLine has produced Prospero (Live)\, an original musical based on The Tempest; the Long Island premiere of Paula Vogel’s Indecent; a newly-commissioned adaptation of Antigone; a sold-out run of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus in a tiny blackbox space; and a production of Treasure Island that BroadwayWorld said was ‘bursting at the seams with imagination’. \nEastLine Theatre is a proud member of the Huntington Arts Council and the Alliance of Resident Theatres / New York.

SUMMARY:The Paramount Presents Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes
DESCRIPTION:In a business where success is defined as getting a second single and longevity measured in nanoseconds\, simply surviving for thirty-plus years is a rare accomplishment. But Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes have not only survived\, they have flourished: more than thirty albums\, several Eps and a box set; thousands of live performances around the globe; a legion of dedicated and enthusiastic fans; dozens of classic songs; a release named by Rolling Stone one of the “top 100 albums of the 70s and 80s.” \nSouthside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes emerged from the New Jersey shore scene in 1974\, and though they carried over a significant influence (and some key personnel) from Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band\, the Jukes evolved as more of a white R&B horn band in the Memphis Stax Records tradition. Organized by singer John Lyon\, guitarist/songwriter Steve Van Zandt (who decamped for the E Street Band in 1975\, but continued to produce\, manage\, and write songs for the Jukes) and Richie Rosenberg\, the band is well known for high-energy shows and no-holds-barred songs\, including “I Don’t Wanna Go Home\,” “Havin’ a Party\,” “The Fever\,” “Talk to Me\,” “Trapped Again\,” and “This Time It’s For Real.” \nStill tinged with the exuberant rhythm and blues feel that is the Jukes’ trademark\, and loaded with the driving sound of the legendary Jukes horn section\, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes continue to expound their signature Jersey Shore sound – all for the sheer joy of it.

SUMMARY:Hofstra University Museum of Art Presents Off the Press
DESCRIPTION:A print\, in the broadest definition\, is a work of art comprised of ink on paper created through an indirect transfer process. Four major printmaking methods have been developed over the centuries: relief\, intaglio\, and the planographic techniques of lithography and screenprinting. Each printmaking method produces a work on paper that has an individual and identifiable quality. \nOff the Press features works from the Hofstra University Museum of Art collection and provides examples of these four printmaking techniques. The collection contains more than 2\,200 prints in a range of mediums and processes that date from the late 16th century to the 21st century. As printmaking techniques have developed over the centuries\, artists have explored the possibilities and pushed the boundaries of traditional printmaking. Digital technology has added additional pathways for this artistic exploration. \nFunding has been provided by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature. \nAdmission is free.

SUMMARY:Richard Clark - Forms and Textures in B&W
DESCRIPTION:Over the past ten years\, my wife and I have travel over much of the world. A fantastic venture! During these ventures I have captured colorful form and texture images everywhere. I always thought I would like to expand my skills in photography during retirement. Recently\, I have taught myself digital image rendering with different software packages. I accidentally discovered that rendering in B&W was as easy as rendering in color. Gradually I realized that for me\, B&W images were more interesting than color – I could bring out contrast of form and textures better than I ever imagined.
