SUMMARY:Fearless Watercolors In Person
DESCRIPTION:Watercolors are perceived as difficult\, unforgiving medium to paint in and the hardest to learn and impossible to correct. I teach the beauty of how forgiving the medium really by painting landscapes\, florals\, waterscapes\, still lifes\, people… we paint anything and all things! \nYou will gain a new skill\, a deeper understanding of the medium and lose the fear around watercolors\, have fun and develop tangible ideas that they can use way beyond these classes. I simply LOVE this medium and long to embrace the unexpected and unusual effects of watercolors and integrate them into my paintings.

SUMMARY:The Heckscher Museum of Art presents Emma Stebbins: Carving Out History
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is the first to recognize Emma Stebbins (1815–1882) as one of the most significant American sculptors of the nineteenth century. While her Bethesda Fountain in Central Park has been a global icon for 150 years\, the full scope of Stebbins’s life and work is virtually unknown. From 1857 to 1870\, she created innovative sculptures while living in Rome with her wife\, renowned Shakespearean actress Charlotte Cushman\, who championed her career. Stebbins modeled inventive and incisive interpretations of literary and biblical subjects\, unprecedented allegories of American industry\, and notable portraits of her friends and family. In 1863\, with the order for the Bethesda Fountain\, she became the first woman to earn a commission for a public sculpture from the city of New York. When Bostonians installed her statue of educator Horace Mann on the grounds of the Massachusetts State House in 1865\, she became the first woman in the country to complete an outdoor bronze monument. \nEmma Stebbins: Carving Out History brings together most of the artist’s rare extant work\, including a portrait drawing and several sculptures that will be on public view for the first time in a century. In addition to fourteen sculptures\, the exhibition features archival material including photographs that document lost marble sculptures and plaster studies that Stebbins never realized in stone or bronze. Stebbins completed the Bethesda Fountain to celebrate the Croton Aqueduct\, which brought clean drinking water to New York City. The inclusion of paintings and photographs by historic and contemporary artists including William Merritt Chase\, Martha Edelheit\, and Ricky Flores attest to its enduring relevance as a monument to health\, healing\, and peace. \nThe exhibition is curated by Karli Wurzelbacher\, PhD\, Chief Curator of The Heckscher Museum of Art\, which stewards the largest collection of Stebbins’s work. An extensive scholarly publication with a foreword by Pulitzer- and Tony-award winning playwright Tony Kushner accompanies the exhibition.

SUMMARY:Jan Guarino presents Fearless Watercolors at the Landgrove Inn
DESCRIPTION:I was once you. Struggling to become a better watercolorist. Seeking classes\, workshops\, teachers and techniques and mostly walking away a bit discouraged and disappointed. \nWell\, I believe I just may have some of the key ingredients you’ve been looking for. My students tell me that I am the watercolor teacher they’ve been looking and couldn’t find – and it is likely that I may be that for you as well. I invite you to be part of an immersive experience that will open new ways to approach a blank sheet of white paper. \nThe result will likely forever change the way you think of painting in watercolors. Along with techniques\, my clear process to putting paint and water to paper will help you more successfully express your passion for this medium.

SUMMARY:Huntington Arts Council presents CALL TO ARTISTS: Essence of Form
DESCRIPTION:The Huntington Arts Council invites artists to participate in Essence of Form\, juried by Edward Acosta. Essence of Form explores how abstract shapes\, colors\, and lines can convey deep\, often unspoken meanings. The exhibition invites viewers to move beyond the tangible and engage with the intangible\, discovering how even the most minimal forms can evoke powerful emotions and thoughts. All visual media are welcome. \nSubmission deadline: January 8th\, 2026  | To submit go to\, www.huntingtonarts.org \nAbout the Juror: Edward Acosta (b. 1982\, Puerto Rico) is a New York-based visual artist with family roots in the Dominican Republic. Acosta is celebrated for his distinctive artistic voice\, which blends a perfectionist’s touch in his intricate line work with a bold and masterful command of color. His unique style reflects his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to pushing the boundaries of visual expression. \nFrom a young age\, Acosta has been captivated by art’s power to transcend language and culture\, drawing on Pop Art\, Street Art\, Graffiti\, Geometric Abstraction\, and Abstract Expressionism in his work. He is known for bold\, vibrant acrylic paintings that feature precise linework\, layered organic forms\, and themes of nature\, movement\, and emotional tension. \nAcosta lives and works in Commack\, NY\, and has exhibited in major institutions including the Heckscher Museum\, Long Island Museum\, and Gallery North. His solo show Contours & Currents premiered at Gallery North. He also creates art installations in luxury real estate and speaks at art events.
