SUMMARY:Harvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond\, a solo exhibition by Sherry Davis.
DESCRIPTION:Harvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond\, a solo exhibition by Sherry Davis. Join us Friday\, September 5th\, 5 – 8PM for the opening reception. All are welcome to attend. \nHarvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond\, traces the development of Sherry’s recent large scale work Harvesting Memories in Blue. The exhibition presents an in-depth exploration of the creation\, challenges\, and impact of a 12-foot geodesic sphere created from over 1\,000 pairs of upcycled denim jeans\, installed in a farm field in Riverhead\, NY. As an immersive\, multimedia experience\, Harvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond\, uses photographs\, video\, related artwork\, new pieces\, and a panel discussion to explore the significance\, environmental\, and community dimensions of her work. This exhibition shares Sherry’s vision as a fiber artist\, rooted in sustainability and collective storytelling\, while honoring East End farmers and addressing textile waste. \nHarvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond is on display through October 12th\, 2025 in our Main Street Gallery\, 213 Main St\, Huntington\, and on our website\, link in bio. \nMain Street Gallery hours: Tues – Fri\, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM\, some weekends. AND we’ll be getting ready to paint scenes for our holiday cards too! \nIn these classes you will learn: 1) to use color wheel and avoid muddy paintings: 2) how to let watercolor paint do the work for you: 3) how to bridge the palette and why its so important; 4) to integrate your own style and creativity; 5) utilize the right colors to achieve movement & granulation; 6) to trust your instincts and allow blossoms\, drips and splatters to work for you … and the proper order in which to do it all. \nYou will receive my reference photo\, my contour drawing\, a live critique\, a recording of the class and my final painting to help you along. SUMMARY:Fearless Watercolors In Person
DESCRIPTION:Watercolors are perceived as difficult\, unforgiving medium to paint in and the hardest to learn and impossible to correct. I teach the beauty of how forgiving the medium really by painting landscapes\, florals\, waterscapes\, still lifes\, people… we paint anything and all things! \nYou will gain a new skill\, a deeper understanding of the medium and lose the fear around watercolors\, have fun and develop tangible ideas that they can use way beyond these classes. I simply LOVE this medium and long to embrace the unexpected and unusual effects of watercolors and integrate them into my paintings.

SUMMARY:The Heckscher Museum of Art presents Emma Stebbins: Carving Out History
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is the first to recognize Emma Stebbins (1815–1882) as one of the most significant American sculptors of the nineteenth century. While her Bethesda Fountain in Central Park has been a global icon for 150 years\, the full scope of Stebbins’s life and work is virtually unknown. From 1857 to 1870\, she created innovative sculptures while living in Rome with her wife\, renowned Shakespearean actress Charlotte Cushman\, who championed her career. Stebbins modeled inventive and incisive interpretations of literary and biblical subjects\, unprecedented allegories of American industry\, and notable portraits of her friends and family. In 1863\, with the order for the Bethesda Fountain\, she became the first woman to earn a commission for a public sculpture from the city of New York. When Bostonians installed her statue of educator Horace Mann on the grounds of the Massachusetts State House in 1865\, she became the first woman in the country to complete an outdoor bronze monument. \nEmma Stebbins: Carving Out History brings together most of the artist’s rare extant work\, including a portrait drawing and several sculptures that will be on public view for the first time in a century. In addition to fourteen sculptures\, the exhibition features archival material including photographs that document lost marble sculptures and plaster studies that Stebbins never realized in stone or bronze. Stebbins completed the Bethesda Fountain to celebrate the Croton Aqueduct\, which brought clean drinking water to New York City. The inclusion of paintings and photographs by historic and contemporary artists including William Merritt Chase\, Martha Edelheit\, and Ricky Flores attest to its enduring relevance as a monument to health\, healing\, and peace. \nThe exhibition is curated by Karli Wurzelbacher\, PhD\, Chief Curator of The Heckscher Museum of Art\, which stewards the largest collection of Stebbins’s work. An extensive scholarly publication with a foreword by Pulitzer- and Tony-award winning playwright Tony Kushner accompanies the exhibition.

SUMMARY:Jan Guarino presents Fearless Watercolors Workshop at Omega
DESCRIPTION:Watercolors have a reputation for being difficult. But watercolors can give you something as an artist that other media can’t—they do a great deal of the work for you. Unexpected results that can’t be repeated make each painting unique. You need to know how to control and give up control all at the same time. It should look and feel effortless—yet it takes an understanding of the medium. \nIn this workshop with award-winning artist and educator Jan Guarino\, explore one of the most important aspects of this medium—the element of surprise that happens when you get out of the way and allow the paint to move in water. Jan says that watercolor is all about how the paint flows and what happens in its wake. Deciding to control it or allow it takes time\, patience\, and practice. \nAs you relax and find ease in your body\, mind\, and soul through art\, you learn to: \nUnderstand how your paint will behave by embracing the beauty of watercolors\nControl brush strokes\nUnderstand color theory to avoid muddy results with color wheel\nCreate unique textures\nCorrect a watercolor with many different methods\nHave fun and so much more…. \nThe subjects we paint together will help us focus on the wonders of watercolors—things that we find in nature around the beautiful Omega campus. Enjoy a magical journey by embracing all the wonderful properties that watercolors offer us all.

DESCRIPTION:(mostly) TRUE THINGS is a game wrapped in a storytelling show\, featuring true stories told by comedy-wrangling\, heartstrings-pulling storytellers from all walks of life\, who range from experienced award-winning performers to many who are entirely new to the experience of sharing a story onstage.\nThe theme of these stories is SECOND CHANCES and features stories by: \nRita Rigano (Generation Women\, The Story Collider\, TALE)\nAnoush Froundjian (The Moth podcast\, Stories From The Stage)\nWayne Robins (Substack\, former rock music critic for Newsday\, LI Rock Music Hall of Fame)\nWill Clegg (Awkward Teenage Years\, Moth slam winner\, solo writer/performer)\nJean Candiotte (Emmy-nominated Creative Television Executive\, improviser)\nJude Treder-Wolff (host\, The Story Collider\, Generation Women\, RISK! live show and podcast\, Story District)\nThe game is this: all but one of the storytellers include carefully-crafted\, subtle little lies into their story. In Act 2\, the audience gets to question the storytellers – who can improvise their responses – then votes for the person they think told their story with no lies. Some improvised\, story-inspired music and songs written for the show by host/creator Jude Treder-Wolff are additional ingredients for a high-energy\, often hilarious\, emotion-packed and entertaining show. There are prizes involved\, if you can believe a thing like that.
