SUMMARY:The Heckscher Museum: Raise the Roof: The Home in Art
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the spaces we inhabit\, Raise the Roof encompasses more than 50 artworks from The Heckscher Museum’s collection that reflect the many meanings of home. The house is a site where daily life unfolds\, work takes place\, identities cohere and shift\, memories form\, and imagination take flight. The art on view in Raise the Roof: The Home in Art demonstrates the central role that our homes have played in our lives and in art. \nRaise the Roof debuts significant recent additions to the collection by contemporary artists such as Courtney M. Leonard\, Kenji Nakahashi\, Becky Suss\, and Stella Waitzkin\, and features a promised gift by sculptor Ed Haddaway. Never-before-exhibited photographs by Larry Fink and prints by Robert Dash are featured as are artworks by Romare Bearden\, Salvador Dali\, Olafur Eliasson\, Miriam Schapiro\, and Esphyr Slobodkina. Each artist’s work embodies home in a singular and intimate way.

SUMMARY:Fearless Watercolors at The Omega Institute
DESCRIPTION:Learn to paint in watercolors without the concern and fear that seems to be associated with this medium. Learn to work with color theory to avoid muddy paintings: understand the natural aspects of watercolors and embrace them instead of trying to control what the paints want to do naturally; know the different types of brush strokes and the timing in which to do it all. Find yourself in this beautiful medium and allow it to be a watercolor by painting different subjects. This workshop takes so many aspects of watercolors and brings them together so that you walk away with a deeper understanding of painting in watercolors. \nOn going In-Person and Zoom classes will continue – go to janguarinofineart.com for updates and details.

SUMMARY:Jan Guarino's Fearless Watercolors at The Omega Institute
DESCRIPTION:Watercolors can be scary. To be succesful you need to know how to control AND give up control all at the same time. It should look and feel effortless and yet it takes effort! \nIn this workshop we will explore what it takes to let the paint flow – the most important aspect of this medium- the element of surprise that happens when you let the paint do the work – all you have to do is get out of the way. It is allowing the paints to move in water.\nAnd much to what you have heard\, there are many ways to correct a watercolor! I will show you all of them along with brush strokes\, understanding color wheel to avoid mud\, textures and all of the natural properties of watercolors. \nFlowers will be our focus for this class – it is the perfect subject to embrace all of the aspects of watercolors ~ how to suggest a petal and yet anyone would know what type of flower it is. Our goal will be to paint loose\, fast and fabulous. \nYou will gain knowledge of understanding how your paint will behave by embracing all the beauty of watercolors – afterall it is the only medium that moves on its own so it will be a very fun and engaging class that will take then you on the most wonderous journey of exploring this medium. With this knowledge we can move into more complex subjects to paint… a window with a flower box\, a landscape\, even a pet.\nPhotos will be provided prior to the workshop as well as my supply list and access to tons of videos for you to review and play with. My passion for watercolor has only grown since I started teaching it years ago. It is all about how the paint flows and what happens in its wake. Deciding to control it or allow it takes time\, patience and practice. We will do warm ups to create the effects that will transform your paintings and then utilize them to paint any object on them once they have dried. \nJoin me for a relaxing\, enjoyable\, no pressure workshop that embraces all of what Omega is about. Heal your body\, mind and soul through art. No prior knowledge of painting is necessary for this workshop. All you have to do is let go and allow….
