DESCRIPTION:Over the past ten years\, my wife and I have travel over much of the world. A fantastic venture! During these ventures I have captured colorful form and texture images everywhere. I always thought I would like to expand my skills in photography during retirement. Recently\, I have taught myself digital image rendering with different software packages. I accidentally discovered that rendering in B&W was as easy as rendering in color. Gradually I realized that for me\, B&W images were more interesting than color – I could bring out contrast of form and textures better than I ever imagined.

SUMMARY:The Firefly Artists: Exhibition - pARTy til the Cows Come Home
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate our beloved village of Northport with this incredibly fun exhibition\, which will constitute a “Last Moo-Rah” and a “MOO-ving Celebration” for our incredibly “Cow-moo-nity Oriented” gallery of local art and artists! \n“pARTy ‘Til the Cows Come Home” is a juried exhibition celebrating and complementing the Great Cow Harbor Day Weekend annually held in our historic downtown Northport\, NY. Works featuring cows\, and other farm life\, as well as those honoring the Cow Harbor Race and festival will be considered. All original media is acceptable\, such as drawing\, painting\, photography\, printmaking\, mixed media\, sculpture\, collage\, fabric work\, glasswork\, jewelry and digital media. Entries must be original artworks (no artwork created in a workshop or class under instruction of a teacher)\, no reproductions (with the exception of photography). Maximum size of pieces (including framing) is 30” x 40”. Each artist may submit one entry for consideration for $35. Artists can submit up to three additional pieces for $5 fee each. Up to two pieces of artwork from each selected artist will be chosen to be part of the exhibition. Please indicate whether the work is framed or unframed. \nThe exhibition will hang September 4 – 25\, 2022. Artists from throughout the USA are invited to apply. The Firefly Artists takes no responsibility for shipping\, and strongly prefers hand delivery and pickup of works. If you do choose to ship\, a prepaid return shipping label must be included.

SUMMARY:Hofstra University Museum of Art Presents Off the Press
DESCRIPTION:A print\, in the broadest definition\, is a work of art comprised of ink on paper created through an indirect transfer process. Four major printmaking methods have been developed over the centuries: relief\, intaglio\, and the planographic techniques of lithography and screenprinting. Each printmaking method produces a work on paper that has an individual and identifiable quality. \nOff the Press features works from the Hofstra University Museum of Art collection and provides examples of these four printmaking techniques. The collection contains more than 2\,200 prints in a range of mediums and processes that date from the late 16th century to the 21st century. As printmaking techniques have developed over the centuries\, artists have explored the possibilities and pushed the boundaries of traditional printmaking. Digital technology has added additional pathways for this artistic exploration. \nFunding has been provided by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature. \nAdmission is free.

DESCRIPTION:New York\, New York. The Big Apple. The City that Never Sleeps. Gotham. The Naked City…Iconic names to describe an iconic metropolis\, a city of myth and legend\, where dreams rise as high as skyscrapers and can fall just as far. Yet beyond the silhouetted skyline is a place where New Yorkers actually live\, work\, love\, struggle\, and survive. \nThese photographs from the Hofstra University Museum of Art collection capture New York City in its infinite complexity and variety\, not only celebrating the city’s iconic architecture\, but reveling in its everyday streets and signage\, authentic faces\, and dynamic street scenes. The black-and-white images were made over a span of 75 years\, from 1932 to 2008\, yet are unified through the use of monochrome\, creating connections between disparate decades. While the photographers are not all native New Yorkers\, they are inheritors of this miraculous city\, dedicated to seeking its intricacies\, grandeur\, joy\, and hardships. Their distinct visions unfold in New York’s ever-changing landscape\, chronicling a city that reinvents itself on a daily basis. \nFunding has been provided by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature. \nAdmission is free.

DESCRIPTION:Asbury Shorts\, New York City’s longest-running non-competitive short film exhibition and touring show\, is returning to the founder’s hometown of Westbury on Friday\, September 16\, for a free outdoor evening film show at Piazza Ernesto Strada on Post and Maple Avenues in the middle of the Village. The show will open with live music at 7:15 with the first film at approximately 8 pm. The show will feature a mix of past audience request favorites mixed with new global festival winners and honorees. \nAsbury Shorts is named for Westbury’s Asbury Avenue where the founder of the festival\, filmmaker Doug LeClaire grew up. “I love returning to Westbury\, a community that nourished and educated me\,” he says. \nFor 40 years Asbury Shorts’ film “Concerts” have been presented at venues across the US\, Canada\, Great Britain\, and Germany. “Our mission\,” says LeClaire\, “is to screen world-renowned\, festival award-winning short films – from all years – in cinemas\, art museums\, performing arts centers\, and cool outdoor locations…on real cinema screens…as opposed to YouTube\, smartphones\, or computers.” The program features a fast-paced and highly entertaining lineup of the best in short film comedy\, drama\, and animation and often includes Oscar nominees\, US film festival ‘Best of Show winners\, and international honorees from the past & present. SUMMARY:EastLine Theatre's Production of "Anna in the Tropics" at Westbury Arts
DESCRIPTION:Winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize\, set in Ybor City\, Florida\, in 1929. Here\, a cadre of Cuban-Americans\, primarily female cigar factory laborers who hand roll each cigar await the arrival of their new lector\, Juan Julian. The lector serves to entertain the workers by reading great stories. Most of the group is overjoyed by the presence of this new\, handsome lector\, but when he starts reading from the Russian classic\, Anna Karenina\, the scandalous lives of Tolstoy’s characters start to intertwine with the lives of his listeners. As Juan Julian reads\, the hot\, humid Florida summer strangely starts to resemble the cold Russian winter of Tolstoy. Infidelity\, money problems\, and violence spring to the surface as the owners and workers grapple with their newfound understanding of life\, love and business.

DESCRIPTION:About Gary Clark Jr.: Clark achieved global impact following his first Grammy Award in 2014 winning Best Traditional R&B Performance for the track “Please Come Home” from his Warner Records debut album Blak And Blu\, and seemingly never left the road. Throughout 2019 Clark ascended to greater heights with the release of This Land – his third full-length studio album which bowed at #6 on the Billboard Top 200\, marking his third consecutive Top 10 debut. The album and single of the same name attracted acclaim from the likes of The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, The Los Angeles Times\, Rolling Stone\, Pitchfork and more. He has performed on Saturday Night Live\, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, The Ellen DeGeneres Show\, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\, The Late Late Show with James Corden\, Jimmy Kimmel Live!\, Good Morning America\, CBS News Sunday\, CBS This Morning\, The Today Show\, Late Night with Seth Meyers\, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah\, The Howard Stern Show\, WTF with Marc Maron and more. Clark’s domestic tours became instant sell outs and his international profile found him topping bills at legendary festivals around the world and venues including the Hollywood Bowl\, along with multiple appearances in stadiums supporting and sharing the stage with The Rolling Stones. Most recently\, Clark won three more Grammy Awards including Best Rock Performance “This Land\,” Best Rock Song “This Land\,” and Best Contemporary Blues Album THIS LAND. Clark also performed his award-winning single “This Land\,” backed by The Roots at this year’s Grammy Award ceremony and released their version of the track. To date\, Clark has been nominated for six GRAMMY Awards® and won four. Clark is currently working on his follow-up to THIS LAND.
