SUMMARY:The Paramount Presents The Amity Affliction & Silverstein with Special Guests: UnityTX & Holding Absence
DESCRIPTION:THE AMITY AFFLICTION: \nSince emerging in 2008 on the debut Severed Ties\, The Amity Affliction have served up three ARIA gold-certified albums\, Youngbloods [2010]\, Chasing Ghosts [2012] and This Could Be Heartbreak [2016]. They also achieved platinum certification for the seminal Let The Ocean Take Me [2014]. The band achieved four consecutive #1 debuts on the ARIA chart with Chasing Ghosts\, This Could be Heartbreak\, Let The Ocean Take Me and Misery[2018]. Most recently Everyone Loves You…Once You Leave Them [2020] continued their ARIA chart streak\, debuting at #2 and showed the band returning to their heavier side with a global stream tally surpass 460 million and counting. The Amity Affliction have also been a dominating live act\, headlining arena tours and festival bills alike worldwide throughout their career. \nSILVERSTEIN: \nFew bands on their 22nd lap around the scene could claim to be in “just getting started” mode as much as punk stalwarts Silverstein. \nThe release of their tenth studio album\, Misery Made Me\, finds the group spring boarding off the heights they’ve reached over the past handful of years; their latest album (2020’s A Beautiful Place To Drown) adding 80 Million streams to a mind-numbing career total of 500 Million; it collecting a nomination for Rock Album Of The Year at the esteemed Juno Awards; and its most recent headliner selling out nearly every date in elite rooms. \nIn bringing Misery Made Me to life Silverstein have continued to build on their already-wide reaching impact. Immersing themselves in new technologies like TikTok\, Discord\, NFTs\, the metaverse and Twitch (even holding public writing sessions with fans over the latter) during its formation\, the band have confirmed their unique ability to adapt and connect in all cycles of their career. \nInterestingly\, amid all the positivity and connectivity injected into its creation there comes a dark set of themes underpinning the album\, as its title might suggest. Inspired by the past two years\, Misery Made Me is a depiction of Silverstein – and world at large’s – collective turmoil\, frustration\, and anxiety. \n“I wanted to explore the meaning of ‘Misery’ as a main theme throughout the album\,” says vocalist Shane Told. “Despite the mountains climbed and boulders pushed during recent years\, we were confronted by the weight and misery of staying relatively in the same place for a long period of time. Finding peace in the reality of this misery became important. The record is about the acceptance of a new reality and adapting to it.” \nUltimately\, Misery Made Me finds the band trying to navigate the ever-worsening challenges of our modern world – angst\, doomscrolling\, and disassociation. It’s a record that is a product of the moment in time in which it was created yet doesn’t feel like it will date itself anytime soon\, as many of its topics of loneliness\, anxiety and isolation are eternal human struggles. \nExemplified by the anthemic opener ‘Our Song’\, Misery Made Me is part acceptance of the band’s personal miseries\, and part declaration that they will not be buried by them. At the back end of the record lies ‘Live Like This’ (ft. nothing\,nowhere.) and arguably its most bleak and haunting lyric: “I don’t want to die\, but I can’t live like this.” \nSingles ‘It’s Over’ and ‘Ultraviolet’ dive deeper into this feeling of desperation\, describing the utter helplessness of losing control to anxiety. \n“’It’s Over’ is about the spiral that leads to giving up\,” shares guitarist Paul Marc Rousseau. “Those anxiety packed hours when you can’t feel anything but the low\, steady crescendo of panic that eventually gets so intense your fingertips lose sensation. It’s hopeless to feel but pointless to endure. I didn’t learn anything from feeling that way. I just wanted it to stop.” \n“’Ultraviolet’ is about feeling powerless and under the control of the chemicals in your brain\,” he adds. “Ultraviolet light itself being invisible felt like the right way to describe this notion. To get lost in this unseeable thing. UV also causes physical damage to our skin\, so it serves as a sort of ‘proof’ that something invisible like anxiety can hurt us.” \nFilled with moments of relentless energy throwing back to their hardcore roots (‘Die Alone’ ft. Andrew Neufeld)\, to visionary moments of modern heavy (‘The Altar / Mary’)\, Misery Made Me fastens Silverstein’s status as torchbearers of the scene on all fronts. \nIt’s both intriguing and inspiring that a band – who could have merely rested on the impressive legacy they’ve already cemented – would continue to dig deep and find the inspiration to reach people in meaningful new ways. Misery Made Me is a campaign hinged on Silverstein’s reflection and gratitude for their roots\, their honouring of their earliest fans\, and their staunch desire to explore forward-thinking and adventurous ways to connect with new ones. \nMisery Made Me is out May 6 via UNFD. \nSILVERSTEIN IS:\nShane Told Vocals\nPaul Marc Rousseau Guitar\nJosh Bradford Guitar\nBilly Hamilton Bass\nPaul Koehler Drums

That is to say\, where everything comes from and where everything ends up…” -Eicca Toppinen – Apocalyptica (cellist and founding member) \nApocalyptica are true explorers\, always seeking new frontiers and uncharted territories in which to express themselves. With Cell-0\, their 9th studio album\, the ambitious and electric quartet have not simply returned to their non-vocal roots\, they have traveled deeper and further into the universe of instrumental music than ever before. That first love and passion which fueled Apocalyptica to form during 1993 in Helsinki now carries richer layers of knowledge and experience\, which in turn have led to the band to a fundamental realization and creative path. \n“We wanted to challenge ourselves to find further flavours in the cello itself\,” says cellist Perttu Kivilaakso “had we found them all? Had we explored every corner to find them?” \n“We went about creating Cell-0 as a full piece of art and not thinking about singles or ‘the timing of singles’ or anything like that\,” continues Eicca “it’s challenging to get all the details and colours right and still have the energy of being a real metal cello band.” continues Eicca\, who like Perttu and fellow cellist Paavo Lötjönen graduated from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki “So that was the main goal for us when doing this album\, to have those two very different worlds connecting to each other in a stronger\, more explorative way than ever before.” \nThe genesis for Cell-0’s creation arrived as Apocalyptica were busy revisiting their initial breakthrough turf on tour. During 2018’s 20th anniversary tour celebrating their genre-breaking debut album Apocalyptica Plays Metallica By Four Cellos\, the importance and potential of their roots started to take on deeper proportions. \n“We found that these concentrated instrumental events helped us to find ourselves better than on other albums\,” explains Perttu\, “this ‘real’ connection between the cello and the audience was renewed\, and made us want to both self-produce and lure ourselves to find the real core of why we began and why we started. I think it is braver and more progressive in terms of the writing. \nAs the band began their journey at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki\, it was clear that such discoveries were not going to come easily. Yet afforded the freedom to explore and create without the constraints of format or schedule\, Apocalyptica were invigorated by the process. \n“On Cell-0 you can clearly hear that we did not take the easiest path\,” chuckles Eicca\, “when we might’ve thought something was good\, we’d then say it wasn’t great\, kick it out and work at it again. And that’s been the tool for us to develop the songwriting\, the arrangement\, the production\, every aspect of making this album. It’s a hard process to be in the studio for a couple of months and keep on challenging yourselves every day for twelve hours a day\, but that stamina is something you learn in your career. Some bands get lazy and just release albums that don’t bring anything new to the table\, that’s not our way of working.” \nIn pushing themselves to find other places and levels in their music\, Apocalyptica opened up to some seemingly unorthodox methods and emotions to travel through the creative process. The result is an album which engages the listener in a myriad of feelings and emotions ranging from the raging thrash of ‘En Route To Mayhem’ to the ethereal shroud of ‘Ashes Of The Modern World’ and the cinematic scope of ‘Call My Name’\, something the band were hoping would happen. \n“It is tough to express without lyrics\, but in Cell-0 we found particles of our universe previously unknown to us.” explains Perttu “Millions of notes combine to create music just as millions of cells combine to create life\, and when you visualize the whole thing\, similar patterns appear. When you look at symphonic sheet music\, it looks similar to starry skies\, and when I look up at the sky and see the stars\, I also see them as potential notes. There are people suffering\, and people not treating our planet properly\, so there is anxiety at the state of the world. Many of the songs on Cell-0 refer to the blindness and greed of humanity and what we should be doing. We discussed during the writing that this was a very important series of emotions and observations to express\, especially with regards to ignorance. I started to believe that human ignorance should be treated as a deadly sin\, as it is behind so much of the bad stuff currently around us.” \n“Writing music\, at least for me\, is about filtering experiences through your personality\,” furthers Eicca\, who found himself listening to old favourites like Shostakovich\, Prokofiev and Gojira in and around the time of co-creating Cell-0. “I start to play something\, develop it and then just transfer my own emotions into the music. It varies a lot depending on the mood. These songs have so many layers\, and are so complex\, it’s not always easy to point out exactly what they are about. But I think that’s also the beauty of instrumental music\, that the listener always can feel free to experience the same songs in very\, very different ways. It’s also one reason why we don’t want to explain the songs before they’re experienced.” \nApocalyptica worked with renowned producer and engineer Andrew Scheps\, who has worked with the Red Hot Chili Peppers\, Lana Del Rey\, Metallica and Black Sabbath among others. He mixed the album at Monnow Valley Studios in South Wales\, UK\, and the band couldn’t be happier with the results. \n“We’ve admired Andrew’s work for a long time\, and he brought essential clarity to the mix.” says Perttu “Mixing cellos creates more problems than any other instrument with any other band. We all play the same instrument\, all in the same register\, and this time with Andrew\, we found perfect balance and clarity between us all. It has left us more than excited to experiment with these songs live.” \nAt once a smorgasbord\, symphony and crushing metallic masterpiece\, Cell-0 shows a band at the very peak of its unique and magical compositional powers. “We will be planning the full Cell-0 tour to be at the next level in terms of how we frame our performances\,” promises Eicca “because as you can probably guess\, we don’t know any other way.”

SUMMARY:The Paramount Presents The Struts "Across The Pond Tour"
DESCRIPTION:The third full-length from British rock band The Struts\, Strange Days came to life over the course of a charmed and frenzied burst of creativity last spring. After getting tested for COVID-19\, singer Luke Spiller\, guitarist Adam Slack\, bassist Jed Elliott\, and drummer Gethin Davies all moved into the Los Angeles home of Jon Levine\, a producer who worked extensively on their acclaimed sophomore effort YOUNG & DANGEROUS (including the album’s chart-climbing lead single “Body Talks”). Within just ten days of couch-crashing at Levine’s house\, The Struts had laid down nine original tracks and one masterful cover of a KISS B-side: a lean\, mean body of work that amounts to their most glorious output to date. \n“It was so much fun to make a record this way instead of getting everything done in between touring\, working with multiple producers in multiple countries\,” says Spiller. “We were all just burning to capture that excitement as much as we possibly could\, and at times it felt like the songs were literally just falling from the sky.” \nIn an organic turn of events for a band massively embraced by some of rock-and-roll history’s greatest icons—a feat that’s included opening for The Rolling Stones\, The Who\, and Guns N’ Roses—Strange Days finds The Struts joining forces with a formidable lineup of guest musicians: Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and Phil Collen\, Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes\, Tom Morello\, and Robbie Williams. Mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Panic! At the Disco\, Arctic Monkeys\, Johnny Marr)\, the result is a powerhouse album that lifts The Struts’ glammed-up breed of modern rock to entirely new and wildly thrilling heights. \nKicking off with a magnificent bang\, Strange Days opens on its title track\, a sprawling and string-laced duet with Robbie Williams. “I was doing Quarantine Radio and Robbie hit me up out of the blue asking if we could talk\,” notes Spiller\, referring to the Instagram Live show launched by The Struts in the early days of lockdown. “We ended up Face-Timing for about two hours the first time we’d ever spoken\, talking about life and music and UFOs and everything else you can think of. I asked if he’d like to work together at some point\, and while we were making the album he graciously let us come over and record him singing on his front porch.” Despite its prescient title\, “Strange Days” took shape from a voice memo Spiller recorded on the band’s tour bus way back in summer 2019. Fused with a cabaret-inspired interlude Spiller had recently dreamed up\, the song ultimately evolved into the perfect vessel for the frontman’s force-of-nature voice: a tenderhearted epic that offers incredible solace in the most chaotic of times. \nSparked from a Britpop-leaning riff brought in by Slack\, the album’s potent lead single “Another Hit of Showmanship” feat. Albert Hammond Jr. centers on another poignant vocal performance from Spiller\, who deftly channels the tension between giving in to temptation and rising above your demons. After laying down the initial version of the track\, Spiller reached out to Hammond\, for whom the band opened on a series of 2018 solo shows. “‘Another Hit of Showmanship’ reminds me of being at a club night called Ramshackle years ago at the O2 Academy in Bristol\, where they’d play bands like The Libertines and Razorlight and Scissor Sisters\, and of course The Strokes\,” says Spiller. “I hit up Albert out of the blue and told him\, ‘We’ve got this song\, and I’m so excited to see what you would do with it.’ As soon as he got his hands on it\, he took it to a whole different level—it really just shows why he’s so brilliant at what he does.” \nThe most groovy-heavy work yet from The Struts\, Strange Days also delivers hip-shaking standouts like “I Hate How Much I Want You”: a hot-and-bothered stomper graced with a scorching guitar solo from Phil Collen and Joe Elliott’s high-voltage vocals. Another explosive moment\, “All Dressed Up (With Nowhere To Go)” unfolds in snarling power chords and exquisitely cheeky lyrics (its opening salvo: “You look like a movie star/On Sunday morning”). “That one’s based around the idea of being in love with your motorcycle—there’s a bit of innuendo to it\,” says Spiller\, whose own bike inspired the track. “The whole concept of being all dressed up with nowhere to go seems especially relevant the moment.” Meanwhile\, “Wild Child” makes for a fierce and filthy anthem\, infinitely supercharged by Tom Morello’s blistering guitar work. And on the beautifully weary “Burn It Down\,” The Struts slip into a bittersweet mood\, serving up a slow-burning ballad that sounds straight from the sessions for Exile on Main St. \nThe sole cover song on Strange Days\, “Do You Love Me” finds The Struts updating a fantastically sleazy track first recorded by KISS in 1976 and remade in 1980 by Girl (a late-’70s/early-’80s British glam-metal band that\, incidentally\, featured Phil Collen on guitar). “I was so in love with Girl’s version of ‘Do You Love Me’ and thought the simplicity of it was amazing\,” says Spiller. “I wanted to give it an even bigger sound for our album—something way more aggressive\, completely balls-to-the-wall.” \nIn their supreme handling of “Do You Love Me\,” The Struts again claim their rightful place in the lineage of rock-and-roll hellraisers. Formed in Derby\, England\, in 2012\, the band quickly drew a major following with their outrageous live show\, and later made their debut with Have You Heard (a 2015 EP whose lead single “Could Have Been Me” hit #1 on Spotify’s viral chart). Before they’d even put out their first album\, the band opened for The Rolling Stones before a crowd of 80\,000 in Paris and toured the U.S. on a string of sold-out shows. With their full-length debut Everybody Wants arriving in 2016\, The Struts released YOUNG & DANGEROUS in 2018\, soon after wrapping up a North American tour with Foo Fighters. Having toured incessantly since their formation\, The Struts have also taken the stage at many the world’s biggest music festivals\, including Lollapalooza\, Governors Ball\, Isle of Wight\, and many more. \nAs Spiller reveals\, the making of Strange Days was a period of joyful productivity. “Every day I’d wake up at about 7 a.m.\, get three venti Americanos delivered to the house\, go out to the backyard and smoke a couple of spliffs\, and listen to the voice memos I’d recorded at the sessions the day before\,” he recalls. “After the first four days or so we hit a bit of a wall\, so we decided to get some beers in and just stay in the pool all day—and the day after that we knocked out three whole songs.” Throughout Strange Days\, that kinetic energy manifests in the album’s unbridled spirit\, an element that makes every track exhilarating. “I think because we’d wanted to make an album this way for years\, all that excitement and hunger led to an immediate sort of magic once we started working on it\,” says Spiller. “It was undoubtedly a magical ten days for us—and I hope when people hear the album\, it gives them a taste of that magic too.”

SUMMARY:The Paramount Presents Ashley McBryde
DESCRIPTION:Ashley McBryde cut her teeth playing country songs in rural biker bars – and it shows. Her 2018 major label debut Girl Going Nowhere (Warner Music Nashville) charmed the New York Times\, NPR\, Rolling Stone\, Paste\, The Washington Post\, and more\, all en route to landing a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album. McBryde closed out 2019 with ACM New Female Artist\, CMT Breakout Artist of the Year\, a New Artist of the Year win at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards and two nominations for the 2020 GRAMMYs for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere.” Her follow-up Never Will\, released April 3\, was tagged by Rolling Stone as one of the most anticipated of the year alongside NPR\, who also ranked her lead Top 10 RIAA Gold-Certified single “One Night Standards” as one of the best songs of 2019. Produced once again by Jay Joyce\, Never Will reveals the witty\, confessional\, detail-driven songwriting addressing a wide spectrum of blue-collar Southern women’s experience introduced on Girl Going Nowhere is still here\, but perhaps even sharper\, earning McBryde a 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album\, along with 2021 ACM nominations for Album of the Year\, Female Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for lead single “One Night Standards.” The music itself is stadium-ready rock-and-roll with a bluegrass wink or two and country music’s storytelling heart––and McBryde\, no longer new\, is the music’s ordained and highly capable standard bearer.
