SUMMARY:Dance Visions NY and the Friends of Cedarmere present Tuffets and Tricksters
DESCRIPTION:Dance Visions NY presents “Tuffets and Tricksters\,” a new site-specific program for Cedarmere\, with a thematic focus inspired by the enduring lessons of fables\, parables\, nursery rhymes\, fairy tales\, and mythology. Across cultures and centuries\, these narrative forms have provided frameworks for grappling with ethical dilemmas\, personal responsibility\, power\, courage\, and compassion. We will artistically express how these foundational moral narratives resonate within contemporary challenges in an increasingly perilous world. Through dance works alongside song\, spoken word\, and visual art\, the program reinterprets these stories through a contemporary artistic lens allowing audiences to encounter these ideas viscerally and reflectively. This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the\nsupport of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Huntington Arts Council.\nPhoto by Marc Josloff.

They maintain the only marine mammal and sea turtle rehabilitation center in New York State. Cold stunning is the number one cause of sea turtle fatality in New York. This is why NYMRC needs your help! The sooner these animals are found and reported to NYMRC\, the higher chance of survival. Attend an online lecture to learn how you can get involved and become a cold stun patroller for the NYMRC! DESCRIPTION:Join sculptor and fiber artist Sherry Davis for “United We Weave: Community Weave-In” — a patriotic collaborative project where participants will help weave a large American flag made from repurposed fire hose. \nDavis is best known for “Harvesting Memories in Blue”\, the iconic 12-foot geodesic denim sphere that was displayed on Sound Avenue in Riverhead. \nVisitors of all ages are warmly invited to help weave the flag and attach their personal messages — creating a living tribute woven together by the community. \nYou can also learn about her upcoming major public sculpture\, “Grateful Turnout”\, (which has been supported by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts). SUMMARY:Huntington Camera Club presents Student Opportunities: Annual Roberta Strent Memorial Award
DESCRIPTION:March 31 – Annual Roberta Strent Memorial Award\nThe Strent Award is a contest that recognizes not just the photo\, but the students’ desire to uphold excellence in this art form. The photo gets our attention; the student essay solidifies our understanding of the student’s commitment … and teacher recommendations round out our final decisions.\nAs local passionate photographers ourselves\, we truly embrace shining a light on young aspiring photographic artists.\nThe Strent family has established an annual $1\,000 award in honor and memory of Roberta Strent\, a beloved mother\, photographer\, and member of the Huntington Camera Club. The award will be made to a high school student who has demonstrated a superior aptitude and continuing interest in photography. This is not a photo contest: the quality of the applicant’s photography will be only one factor in the selection of the winner.
