SUMMARY:Firefly Artists Special Exhibition: BIG INK
DESCRIPTION:The Firefly Artists are thrilled to have Big Ink back at The Firefly Artists. BIG INK hosts large-scale woodblock printmaking events across the United States and we have been lucky to have them visit us in the summers of 2018 and 2019. Artists that are interested in carving a woodblock of at least 24 by 36 inches are invited to participate. First\, you submit a design for consideration. If selected\, you’ll have two months to carve a woodblock based on your submission. \nApplications are due 6/30. \nOn 8/20 and 8/21\, BIG INK will transform the art studio in the gallery into a print studio featuring The Big Tuna: a custom-designed giant mobile press. The public is invited to attend\, witness the spectacle\, and learn more about the process. The event spans two days with 8-10 artists printing their works of art each day. \nThe printed pieces will then be on display in the Darcy Arts Center on the second floor of Firefly Art Gallery through 8/21-9/3/2022. \nSubmission fee is $35. You can submit up to 3 designs for consideration. Accepted artists are required to pay a $350 fee for the event ($35 submission fee will be deducted from event fee). Accepted artists will also be responsible for purchasing their own 3/8 or 1/2 inch carving substrate and carving tools. \nThis is an amazing event! We hope that you will join us.

DESCRIPTION:Over the past ten years\, my wife and I have travel over much of the world. A fantastic venture! During these ventures I have captured colorful form and texture images everywhere. I always thought I would like to expand my skills in photography during retirement. Recently\, I have taught myself digital image rendering with different software packages. I accidentally discovered that rendering in B&W was as easy as rendering in color. Gradually I realized that for me\, B&W images were more interesting than color – I could bring out contrast of form and textures better than I ever imagined.

DESCRIPTION:Drawn from the multifaceted collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation\, The Heckscher Museum of Art’s exhibition Global Asias examines the cosmopolitan\, exuberant\, and subtly subversive works of 15 artists of Asian heritage who are adept at crossing borders – not only physical ones\, but also those in media\, styles\, genre\, and materials. \nGlobal Asias invites viewers to think about Asia not in singular but plural terms – encouraging audiences to understand Asia as a site of meaning across the globe. The artists in Global Asias were born in Japan\, China\, Korea\, Vietnam\, Argentina\, and the United States. The exhibition provides an opportunity to move away from considering Asia as a geographical location and instead invites viewers to think broadly about how “Asia” has long served as an imaginative construct.

DESCRIPTION:Deadline for Submission: August 28th!\nVisit our website for details! \nCelebrate our beloved village of Northport with this incredibly fun exhibition\, which will constitute a “Last Moo-Rah” and a “MOO-ving Celebration” for our incredibly “Cow-moo-nity Oriented” gallery of local art and artists! \n“pARTy ‘Til the Cows Come Home” is a juried exhibition celebrating and complementing the Great Cow Harbor Day Weekend annually held in our historic downtown Northport\, NY. Works featuring cows\, and other farm life\, as well as those honoring the Cow Harbor Race and festival will be considered. All original media is acceptable\, such as drawing\, painting\, photography\, printmaking\, mixed media\, sculpture\, collage\, fabric work\, glasswork\, jewelry and digital media. Entries must be original artworks (no artwork created in a workshop or class under instruction of a teacher)\, no reproductions (with the exception of photography). Maximum size of pieces (including framing) is 30” x 40”. Each artist may submit one entry for consideration for $35. Artists can submit up to three additional pieces for $5 fee each. Up to two pieces of artwork from each selected artist will be chosen to be part of the exhibition. DESCRIPTION:Westbury Arts proudly presents an exhibition of Islamic Art. Across the Islamic world\, visual art has three key characteristics; floral motifs\, geometric designs\, and/or calligraphy. Often overlapping across various art forms and genres\, these elements are influenced by principles in the Qu’ran. This exhibit will be grouped by examples of these three art forms.
