SUMMARY:Dance Visions NY presents "From a Distant Past"
DESCRIPTION:From a Distant Past is a reworking of our theatrical dance piece\, based on an original lyrical and symbolic poem by Kyra Jucovy. Depicting a journey\, following a river from its source in caves all the way to the mouth of the ocean\, the poem symbolizes eternal cycles. This intimate performance piece consists of recorded text from the poem\, spoken by actor Tzena Nicole over background music\, live dance with our company of 5 dance artists\, and projected imagery. \nThe work has rich and varied dynamics and includes beautiful and eerie depictions of nature through words\, movement\, costumes and imagery. Key themes include destruction leading to creation\, darkness to light\, endings to beginnings. This timeless and timely work continuously seems to address the world’s current issues. Included is Isadora Duncan repertory in Grecian tunics\, adding to the mythic overtones.\nWith discussion of the poem and the performance work afterwards.\nThe company will also present Forging the Elements\, based on artwork of Susan Ruth Cohen\,\nRegistration recommended for this free program. call 516 935 6790

SUMMARY:Dance Visions NY presents “From a Distant Past”
DESCRIPTION:From a Distant Past is a reworking of a theatrical dance piece\, based on an original lyrical and symbolic poem by Kyra Jucovy. Depicting a journey\, following a river from its source in caves all the way to the mouth of the ocean\, the poem symbolizes eternal cycles. This intimate performance piece consists of recorded text from the poem\, spoken by an actor over background music\, dance\,and projected imagery.\nThe work has rich and varied dynamics and includes beautiful and eerie depictions of nature through words\, movement\, costumes and imagery It encompasses timeless and timely themes of destruction leading to creation\, darkness to light\, endings to beginnings. Included is Isadora Duncan repertory in Grecian tunics\, adding to the mythic overtones. With discussion of the poem and the performance work with the creators and the performers afterwards

SUMMARY:Dance Visions NY presents “Forging the Elements” for a program by Creative Performances
DESCRIPTION:“Forging the Elements\,” is a stand-alone revision taken from the company’s pivotal work\, “Through the Portals”. The piece depicts worlds of color and relationships. The colors (as dancers) also represent the elements of fire\, water\, air and earth as well as personality traits. The colors develop individual traits and interact\, and identity is tested and strengthened through these interactions. Artwork from Susan Ruth Cohen’s “Finding the Song” which was created along with the choreography\, serves as the background and taking off point for the various scenes in the work. This piece will be presented along with 7 other works by emerging and established choreographers as part of the series “8 in a Show” curated and presented by “Creative Performances.”
