SUMMARY:The Art Guild Presents Botanical Illustration: Flowering Bulbs with Monica Ray
DESCRIPTION:Most flowering bulbs are planted in fall for spring color or can be forced to flower earlier. The bulbs themselves can be admired for their form\, texture\, color\, tangled mass of roots\, and possible emerging leaf shoots. In this workshop we will focus on rendering a bulb of your choice in colored pencil. Practice color matching and layering techniques to build\, and burnish color. Learn how best to imply the papery skin of the bulb and systematically capture the tangle of roots. Please bring a bulb of your preference to class. \nGood candidates for illustration are Hippeastrum bulbs (a.k.a amaryllis)\, paperwhites and other daffodils\, hyacinths\, and tulips. \nNote: when storing bulbs in your refrigerator make sure no fresh fruit is stored inside. A cold basement is a good place for storage\, however protect your bulbs from freezing and possible little four-footed creatures. \nFor materials please refer to the materials list.

Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity\, space is limited. \nThis lecture is Free to Workshop participants\, please contact Tracy Lefkowitz to register tlefkowitz@theartguild.org \nMax Ginsburg\nGinsburg’s paintings are in many museums and private collections including The Butler Institute of American Art\, The New Britain Museum\, The Washington County Museum of Fine Art\, The Society of Illustrators Museum\, The Art Renewal Center Collection\, The Salmagundi Club\, The Hospital Workers Union 1199 and other public institutions.\nHe exhibited his fine art from 1953 to the present. From 1980 – 2004 he painted illustrations commissioned by the major publishing companies.\nGinsburg taught art over 60 years:\n1960 – 1982 at The High School of Art & Design (NYC).\n1984 – 2000 at The School of Visual Arts (NYC).\n2008 – Ongoing: at The Art Students League of N.Y.\nHe has given many PAINTING FROM LIFE WORKSHOPS around the U.S. and abroad.\n2020 – Ongoing: Online Painting Classes and Workshops \nIn 2011 he published his BOOK “MAX GINSBURG – RETROSPECTIVE.” \nOver the years he exhibited and received many awards. DESCRIPTION:The Art League of Long Island’s Open House will take place on Saturday\, August 19th from 11 am to 2pm. The Open House offers visitors an opportunity to learn more about its year-round art classes and summer programs and see what happens in the Art League’s specialized art studios. Free Art Kits to the first 100 visitors courtesy of Staples. \nArt League instructors will perform live art demonstrations in painting\, drawing\, ceramics\, jewelry making\, and printmaking\, catering to students of all ages. Some of these demos will be interactive\, allowing individuals and families to create fun art projects. Meet Summer Art Adventure Program Director Marianne Murphy and teaching assistants as kids work on fun hands-on activities. \nThe Art League is a not-for-profit art center offering more than 300 visual arts classes annually in a variety of mediums to adults\, teens\, and kids ages five and up. Classes\, workshops\, and open studios are offered to beginner\, intermediate\, and advanced students year-round\, in the mornings\, afternoons\, evenings\, and weekends. Students can register at any time throughout the year. Summer Programs are available for kids ages 5 to 14 and for older teens working on their college portfolios. In addition to the myriad art classes\, the Art League also hosts special events\, lectures\, and exhibits throughout the year. \nThe Art League of Long Island is located at 107 East Deer Park Road in Dix Hills\, right off exit 42N of the Northern State Parkway.
