Amina Figarova was born in Azerbaijan and now lives in New York, composing and arranging all the music for her group. She has toured extensively, developing a tight-knit ensemble with her husband and bandmate, flutist Bart Platteau, and has attained a distinctive and inimitable voice. The band has triumphed at the Newport Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and won critical and audience acclaim in Chicago, Detroit, Paris, Amsterdam — and of course New York. Amina\’s music strikes a perfect tone, employing genuinely beautiful harmonies to capture the puzzling jostle of daily existence coming into unexpected but deeply satisfying sync.
