Opening Reception: April 6, 6-8pm.
Diego Garcia, a Long Island born and raised painter, has had a passion for art from an early age. His journey of finding himself artistically began through graffiti and taking honors art classes at Brentwood High School. He started to take his craft seriously around the age of 17 by doing commission work and submitting to group exhibitions. The now 25-year-old finds himself showing his work across Long Island and in numerous venues in New York City.
Summit is very special to me. Since my first solo show in 2015 I have embarked on a journey of self evaluation and growth. My mission to inspire youth and depict emotions comes with strong convictions and certainty. I paint children to help advocate to the viewer a message bigger than myself. Children need to be nurtured and loved, they are the future. As the years have gone by I began to notice that as I advocated this message, the imagery and idea of personifying emotions with these innocent subjects was also me subliminally working on myself. I have painted extroverted emotions and experiences of joy, wonder and exuberance. I have painted introverted emotions and experiences of loneliness, timidness and fear. My insecurity, my confidence, my message all in one. We all can relate to these feelings, both child and adult. – Diego Garcia
Closing Reception: April 27, 7-9pm, featuring Dudley Music, John Francke, John Luther, and Gary Salgado.
Dudley and I have been coordinating creative events together since we were 18 years old. In our own creative fields we have advocated for the future generations of artists and musicians and have made it our mission to push the art community and culture forward on Long Island. It is an honor to have my lifelong friend express himself alongside my work. – Diego Garcia
