JOURNEY Cultural Arts Workshops for Teachers-Walking with Nature, Talking with Trees

Walking with Nature, Talking with Trees

Tonito Valderrama has a background in museum and art education from C.W. Post of Long Island University. He is also a national exhibiting environmental artist who has focused on environmental issues, such as deforestation and endangered species. He will discuss the tradition of the “talking stick,” a tool used in Native American ceremonies to encourage respect, civic engagement and understanding among peers. Working with natural materials, participants will create their own symbolic Native American talking sticks to use in their classrooms.
Great for K-4 classroom teachers, 7th grade socials studies, Special Education K-8, S, art and music teachers

Teachers from the following districts attend for free:  Cold Spring Harbor CSD, Commack UFSD, Harborfields CSD, Huntington UFSD, Northport/East Northport UFSD, Plainview/Old Bethpage CSD, and South Huntington UFSD
