Huntington Summer Arts Festival: Bernstein’s America, Long Island Orchestra with David Stewart Wiley and Jeffrey Biegel

8pm: Concert. Long Island Orchestra (LIO), is the region’s newly formed professional symphony orchestra, founded by professional musicians and Music Director/Conductor David Stewart Wiley of the former Long Island Philharmonic, along with a group of forward-thinking educators deeply connected to Long Island. Tonight’s program celebrates the centennial of Leonard Bernstein’s birth. One of the most important and beloved figures in America’s musical pantheon, Leonard Bernstein achieved world-wide acclaim as a composer of  classical works and Broadway shows, as conductor/musical director of the New York Philharmonic, and as a passionate educator and advocate for the arts. Selections include pieces from “West Side Story” and “Candide”, plus contemporary and American Composers who influenced Bernstein. Hear George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” with Jeffrey Biegel on piano, Aaron Copland’s “Quiet City”, Richard Rodgers’s “Medley from Sound of Music”, and Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America”.
