Huntington Arts Council’s Cultural Arts Workshops: “Exploration, Education, and Engagement through Artifacts – A Whaler’s Life”

November 8, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm

This “field study” will be held at The Whaling Museum and Education Center in Cold Spring Harbor. It will be presented by Liz FuscoEducation Manager & Artist in Residence. Participants will engage in activities using artifacts to explore and discover the culture and lives of Long Island whalers. The hands-on activities employed will be presented for use back in the classrooms. Through the art of making scrimshaw, the American folk art of whalers, teachers will experience making art as a way to investigate artifacts and in turn, the culture they represent. Great for teachers for all grade levels from elementary through high school.

Approved CTLE Sponsor. This series is a component of the Journey multicultural arts-in-education program. Workshops are free to school district teachers in Cold Spring Harbor, Commack, Harborfields, Huntington, Northport/East Northport, Plainview/Old Bethpage, and South Huntington. There is a $50 fee per workshop for teachers from non-Journey school districts and interested community residents. Earn in-service hours or Professional Development credit. (Workshop selections and locations are subject to change.)
