DISCOVERING LONG ISLAND

Posted on November 29, 2018 by public relations in Exhibition, Featured, General HAC News

Huntington Arts Council is proud to present Discovering Long Island, Juried Exhibition, Stephanie Gress Juror, Director of Curatorial Affairs for the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum. Exhibit is on display from December 7, 2018 – January 5, 2019. Exhibition and Holiday Reception is December 14, 2018 from 6-8pm at the Main Street Gallery, 213 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743. This reception is also our open house to celebrate the holiday season. This is a free event, all are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Huntington Arts Council invited artists to submit work inspired by Long Island’s history and to create a work that focused on an aspect of Long Island’s cultural and natural heritage. Some prompts to consider were: seaside industry, farm life, Native Americans, the American Revolution, art colonies, etc. Consider photos and paintings of historic landmarks and sites, portraits of reenactors, sculptures of ancestors, assemblages with local artifacts, and everything in between!

“The works submitted for the Discovering LI exhibition were an excellent representation of the spirit of the local landscape and community. I truly enjoyed seeing how the artists conveyed this spirit through varying mediums, from traditional paintings and photographs to three-dimensional and abstract pieces. Congratulations to all of the artists!” – Stephanie Gress, Director of Curatorial Affairs for the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum.

Congratulations to all of the artists accepted into this show; Beth A. Atkinson, Anne Barash Breitstein, Holly Black, Paul Cammarata, Christine Carbone, Dorothy M Chanin, Philip Costa, Joseph Cutolo, Madeline Daversa, Doris Diamond, Vicki Mies Field, Jim Finlayson, Phyllis Goodfriend, Jan Guarino, Rodee Hansen, Beth Heit, Gerry Hirschstein, Geraldine Hoffman, Sonya Horowitz/SRH Perspectives, Melissa Johnides, Kate Kelly, Theo Lau, Jacques LeBlanc, Edward Lee, Melissa Maiello, Carol A.
