Grand Opening of "Island Passions" at The Art-trium Gallery
Be the first to see this exhibit and explore the depths of island life.
"Island Passions" will feature local artists such as Jennifer Lau, John Ellsworth, Pamela Long Nolan and Bobbie Schneider. Music will be performed by Ann Stevens.
"This exhibit gives the chosen artists an opportunity to use their deeply creative skills to address the concept of "Island"-be it a tropical paradise, a harsh city street, or our own Long Island. Through a variety of media, each artist instills their personal voices in their work and then shares those passions with us," said Art-trium Gallery Curator,William Grabowski .
The opening reception will be held on January 6th, 2011 from 5:30 pm to 7pm at The Art-trium Gallery (25 Melville Park Rd., Melville, N.Y. 11746). The exhibit will close on April 4th, 2011. Please note that in addition to this event, regular gallery hours apply (Monday-Friday: 7am-7pm & Saturday: 8am-1pm).
Jennifer Lau (Northport, NY) has a strong background in graphic design which is carried throughout her work. Her experience ranges from all aspects of marketing including brand development, web design and art directing photo shoots. She won the 2005 Gilroy Garlic Festival Poster Contest with a design that featured a rustic sepia image of garlic bulbs. Since then, she has been pursuing photography as more than a hobby.
Photographer John Ellsworth (Northport, NY) emphasizes light, shadow, water and reflections as a visual form. Ellsworth also focuses on windows and doors. "They provide a visual sense of multi-layers that seem to take us through, or in the case of reflection, back. Either way, there's an added dimension," said John Ellsworth.
Pamela Long Nolan (East Northport, NY) been greatly influenced by artists such as Picasso and Jackson Pollock. This visual image is her favorite form of communication. "I insist on figurative and landscape imagery because I really love to draw," said Artist Pamela Long Nolan.
Bobby Schneider (Centerport, NY) uses water as subject and medium. Her background is extensive. She started as a commercial artist and designer for her husband's company. Bobbie has been presented with many awards at juried shows involving  C.W. Post College, the Brooklyn Museum, the Professional Artists Guild and other exhibits. Other achievements include the Rochester Printing Award, the International Printing Week Award and the Graphic Arts Award Competition.
Founded in 1963, the Huntington Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization which enriches the quality of life of Long Islanders with programs and services that address the needs and interests of artists, cultural organizations and the community. The Huntington Arts Council has been designated a "Primary Institution" by the New York State Council on the Arts, a title meaning "vital to the cultural life of New York State."
