Long Island Business News Recognizes
Huntington Arts Council in "Fifty Around 50" Awards

HUNTINGTON, NY, 15 September 2009 - The Huntington Arts Council is pleased to announce that it is one of four organizations recognized by Long Island Business News in their "Fifty Around 50" awards. The Council will be honored at a gala ceremony on September 24 at the Garden City Hotel.

The decisions of the judging committee were based on "leadership in business, mentoring and support for the Island's not-for-profit organizations and commitment to the communities that ultimately support us and our businesses."

Arts Council Executive Director Diana J. Cherryholmes stated, "I think one of the main reasons for our many successes and growth is because from 1963 forward to 2009, the board has always kept at the forefront of its work our mission. We constantly evaluate how to achieve it, aware that the community's support for the arts in Huntington and all over Long Island has been vital to everything we have done."

Founded in 1963, the Huntington Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization which enriches the quality of life of Long Islanders with programs and services that address the needs and interests of artists, cultural organizations and the community. The Council's programs reach over 750,000 Long Island residents, and it serves the entire region with its cultural listings at www.huntingtonarts.org. The Council is the official arts coordinating agency for the Town of Huntington, and serves as the primary regranting agency in Suffolk County for the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), in addition to its services to over 600 member cultural organizations and individual artist members.
