Public Relations Manager

Job Description:

The Public Relations Manager of Huntington Arts Council, Inc. is responsible for promoting and publicizing the programs, events, and services of the Huntington Arts Council, Inc.  This is a part-time position, 28 hours a week.
           

  • Edit and oversee production of Arts Cultural News, published three times annually  Tasks include:
  • writing
  • creating and managing production schedule
  • designing layout
  • database entry
  • working with advertisers
  • creating house ads
  • Lead and participate in creation of new CMS website
  • Develop and update website content, keeping it current and innovative
  • Create a media distribution list with a deadline schedule
  • Create  new marketing materials and update existing materials
  • Write and distribute press communications, including:
  • press releases
  • public service announcements
  • pitch letters
  • backgrounders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the press
  • Understanding and good knowledge of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, YouTube, etc.)
  • Research new social media and mobile applications
  • Write, create and distribute eblasts to target markets as appropriate
  • Write and design posters, brochures, postcards, and other printed materials
  • Write feature stories about HAC member organizations and artists members
  • Measure and report impact of PR initiatives
  • Participate on Communication Committee
  • Serve as back-up front desk receptionist and provide additional assistance as needed

Hours: to be arranged with applicant, office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm; some evening and weekend hours required.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Minimum two years experience in public relations or related field
Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills
Design experience a must
Proficient in Dream Weaver, Microsoft Office, In Design, Photoshop and Illustrator
Arts aficionado a plus
Valid Drivers License

Salary commensurate with experience

The Huntington Arts Council (HAC) promotes arts and culture for greater Long Island artists, to our children and to the general population.  We work to enrich the cultural, social and economic life of the community by nurturing the professional development of artists, and providing timely news and events via the Arts Cultural News (90,000 distributions).  Our Arts-in-Education program reaches 30,000 children every year through our partner school districts.  We also offer artistic programs and services to our more than 100 member cultural organizations, encompassing the broad spectrum of arts disciplines.

Since it was founded in 1963 as a not-for-profit organization, the Huntington Arts Council has inspired and aided the growth of hundreds of art organizations and individual artists now flourishing across Long Island.  The Huntington Arts Council celebrates the diversity of Long Island’s cultural resources through sponsored activities, programs and publications that advocate cultural awareness and education.   The Huntington Arts Council is the official arts coordinating agency of the Town of Huntington and serves as the primary regranting agency in Suffolk & Nassau County for the Long Island Decentralization Program funded by the New York State Council on the Arts and JPMorgan Chase Foundation. 

 

Arts Administration Internship Opportunities for
College & High School Students

Internships are available year-round to college and high school students. Non-paid internships fulfill community service requirements and written verification may be provided to students at the end of their session. Hours are flexible. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
